In order to clear up Josiah C. C. Womack's wives here's a Post Note:

Mary Ann Frost was his first wife as evidence by the 1860 census Johnson Co., AR. Mary Ann Frost moved to AR with her parents from Tishomingo Co., MS. The 1860 census shows Josiah's oldest child's birth place as MS.

1870 ARKANSAS MORTALITY SCHEDULE

Logan Co. was a part of Johnson Co. until 1871.

Nancy J. Unknown was Josiah C.C. Womack's 2nd wife on the the 1880 Logan Co., AR census. He is apparently a widower on the 1870. After Josiah died in 1890, Nancy took some of Josiah's family to OK. I don't know Nancy J.'s maiden name, but I'll bet's she's the Nancy McIntire in Jacob and Elizabeth Frost's HH on the 1870 Franklin Co., AR census.

LaVonne,

Levi Womack was the son of Josiah C. C. Womack, b. ca. 1829 Jackson Co., AL d. 12 May 1890, Driggs, Logan Co., AR, and Mary Ann Frost, b. 1835 Perry Co., AL, dau. of Jacob W. Frost and Elizabeth Corley. Mary Ann died Mar 1870 Logan (then Johnson) Co., AR of Pneumonia. We really have no proof of Josiah's parents, but feel certain he was the grandson of Comfort and Josiah Womack. He is buried in Center Point Cemetery near Magazine, AR. When this cemetery was abstracted in 1999, there was a marker for him: C. C. Womack birth ? d. 1890.

Please get in touch and I will give you the information on the spouses of Josiah's children.

I'm sure most of you don't know Barbara Sullivan's connection to the Womacks. She was a descendant of Joseph Riddle, Choctaw, and Phebe Womack, daughter of Jesse Womack, son of Maj. Jacob Womack. It just took us three years of friendship to figure that out!

Beth,
Thank you for all the information re: my Womack relatives. Some of the dates do not match with what I have, but they could all be wrong as I have very little to go on. My mother died when I was 13 and I had never gotten much info from her before then. Bell McDonald Kirk was my mother's half sister, as was Ella (I thought the last name was McDonnell per the 1900 census for Montague, TX.) I only knew them as Bell Kirk and Ella Hamilton. Sanford Hamilton was my mother's first husband whom she married at age 14. I assume Bell was Rebecca and William J.'s daughter. I am probably incorrect as to his middle name--David was something I had listed on my mother and father's marriage application, however, there were several errors on that about my Dad's family names also--so who knows. Thanks again. Will let you know if I find anything else.

Ina,

There are several researchers on this web page who descend from this family. I'll just list the data I found.

According to family researchers on Rootsweb's World Connect, William Jefferson Womack, b. 1 Feb 1833 Washington (probably) Co., AR d. 9 Sep 1889, son of David Womack and Elizabeth Briscoe, m. 3rd Rebecca McDonald 3 Jul 1889 Jack Co., TX.

The 1900 Montague Co., TX census records for Rebecca Womack indicate her Womack children were Henry D. Womack, b. Apr 1890 TX and Flurida Womack, b. Jul 1894 TX. The researchers list only Henry as William Jefferson's son. You will note that William Jefferson d. in 1889. There is a marriage license with the July 1889 date of W. J. Womack and Rebecca McDonald in Jack Co., TX.

Henry and his sister and brother-in-law Flurida Womack and Sanford K. Hamilton, are found with their half sister, Bell McDonald Kirk, b. ca. 1876 KS, on the 1910 Hunter Twp., Kiowa Co., OK.

William Jefferson Womack's son, Isom Conrad m. Belle McDonald 29 June 1889 Jack Co., TX. I don't know whether Belle McDonald was Rebecca Campbell and William McDonald's daughter, Bell McDonald Kirk. Also, I don't know if Isom Conrad's first wife, Belle McDonald died or the marriage ended in divorce. Isom married Prudence Mary Alice Beebe bef. 1889. Do you have information on Bell McDonald Kirk?

Rebecca and her 1st husband, William McDonald are found on the 1880 Coyville Twp., Wilson Co., KS census with children Amanda, age 4 b. KS, Americus V., age 3 b. MO and Lillie M., age 1 mo., b. KS. On the 1990 census she also has her daughter, Ella J. McDonald, age 17 b. KS and her mother, Hulda Campbell, age 80 b. TN.

Rebecca's parents, John W., age 52 b. NC and Hulda Campbell, age 60 b. TN are on the 1880 Wichita Falls Twp., Wichita Co., TX census with children Daniel M, age 26 b. MO, William H., b. AR, Nancy V., age 16 b. TX and grandson, James M, age 5 b. TX.

Ina, maybe your family has information that Rebecca was married to William David Womack after William Jefferson Womack died.

My fathers name was Chyrus Jackson Vantrease. I am looking for information regarding Chyrus Levi Womack. My grandmother gave me a few family photos. One is of her father (Chyrus Levi Womack), mother (Carrie Gentry Womack), herself and one of her brothers. The other photo is another family picture which dislays her family and other relatives. She has passed on now but she told me that she did not know all of there names but is, I guess, from the Womack side. I was also told that I have an American native heritage on this side and I do not know which tribe, but I have been told I have Indian features and I have the olive skin color. I am very interested in finding more information about my Womack family side as I have traced back on the Vantrease history.

Thanks for any information,

Thanks Sam for your note on John Womack's wife. It is good to know. That seems to be a problem where the female is lots of times thought of in her husband's surname and not in her maiden name that she was born with.It is a problem in many forms. I took my maiden name back when I divorced my first husband and kept it when I married my 2nd husband. Now he gets phone calls and mail for Mr. Noland. Also Derrell and Shawna, I want to thank both of you . Your Hager/Hagar Data does help me in knowing which of all those Elizabeths isnot Louis B.W.Jones (b1799) first wife. I am thinking that she is the daughter of David Hager/Hagar and Elizabeth Self. I don't know for sure, but she is about the correct age and lots of that bunch came to KY. Doretta,

WGN's search engine won't pull it up (probably my typing!), but in Nov of 2002, Charlotte Jones Harrington posted a query about a possible Mary Womack who married into her Jones family of Stanley Co., NC. I kept running into the Harrington and Jones families while looking for the Hagers and Womacks. I believe her great grandfather was Baldwin "Baldy" Jones. Mary Womack (or Moss?) was "Baldy"'s mother. If you would care to, look in the archives for her post. You might email her and see if she has anything on your Jones. I haven't heard from Charlotte in a while, but she still lives in the area.

I have a L.B.W.Jones who married 1st "Betsy" Elizabeth Hager/Hagar who I think could be the daughter of Sarah Elizabeth Self and David Hager/Hagar or she could be a different Elizabeth Hager/Hagar. Franklin, I believe had an aunt named Elizabeth. Anyway I can't find who these Elizabeths married, nor can I find data on L.B.W.Jones 1st marriage, but he lived Madison, Estill and maybe Jessamine Cos KY. My ancester is his 1st wife whoever she is.Doretta

Hi Doretta,

I remember you mentioned Archibald Womack and the Self/Hager connection in April. Archibald Womack, b. VA, and Sarah "Sally" Hager, b. Lincoln Co., NC, were the parents of Thomas Womack, b. Lincoln Co., NC, who was in Batesville, Independence Co., AR by 1850. According to the Oaklawn Cemetery records in Batesville, Thomas Womack (b. ca. 1813) m. Clara (Clarecy on the census records) Taylor, dau. of Absalom and Catherine Taylor. They were married and had son, William, by 1840 in Lincoln Co., NC.

I haven't looked at many of Archibald & Sally's children, but Starling and Elisha stayed in Lincoln Co. Sally's brother, Starling/Sterling Hager later came to Arkansas.

Archibald Womack was in Lincoln Co., NC by 1805 because the Hager researchers say Sally Hager m. Archibald at 15 and she was b. in 1790. I could not pin down a date of birth for him as the 1820 census record said 26-44. She was a widow by 1840.

Looking at the Womacks who lived in Lincoln Co., NC......

Abraham Womack, b. ca. 1726 Henrico Co., VA, d. ca. 1800 Lincoln Co., NC, son of Thomas Womack and Mary Farley. Abraham's son, Abner Womack, born January 07, 1764 in Prince Edward Co., Virginia; died February 14, 1845 in Butler Co., Kentucky. He ived in Lincoln Co., NC until 1797 when he moved to Logan Co., KY. He married Agnes Nancy Reed.

Abraham had a brother, Thomas, who had a grandson, Archer, b. ca. 1770 in Chesterfield Co., VA. That's the only possibility I see for Archibald Womack.

On Sam's NC Womack Marriages page, he has Sallie Hager and Archibald Womack with a URL to view the children of this couple, but the URL no longer works.

Do you know the parents of Archibald Womack?
