Jack, very glad to have you back with us, you gave us a scare. Just get your health back and take care of yourself. Sometimes we just don't let folks know how important they are to us until it to late, sure glad that wasn't the case here. You are appreciated!!
Your cuz, Roger

(Not my family; I have no additonal information.}

Found in the Columbia, Kentucky, "Adair County News," August 19, 1942 edition, page eight:

(No headline)

Mrs. A.C. Chittenden, of Spokane, Wash., was the guest of Mrs. Etta Caldwell and family, at Milltown, several days last week and is now the guest of Mr. & Mrs. Will Penick, in Greensburg.

Mrs. Chittenden is a native of Adair County, being a granddaughter of the late John WOMACK. She left Adair County when a child and had not visited the scenes of her childhood until three years ago when she came to Louisville to visit five generations of cousins and a few friends near Milltown.

(Milltown is in western Adair County; Greensburg is in neighboring Green Co.)

Or the 1815-1816 Tax List for Arkansas in Lawrence Co and on the 1820 Census for Lawrence Co Arkansas and that he came to Madison Co before 1832 and settled in what would become Madison near Washington Co Line.

The rest was David Womack and Elizabeth Brisco Womack’s kids info and so on. By the way all the aboved typed information is exactly what Patricia (Cox) Jackson wrote nothing has been changed that would mess with the line. (I corrected dates I was sure she meant to type something other than what she did)

Hi everybody. I want to begin this NEW YEAR telling you about Mary Carrington Venable Womack (1786-1867). She was a daughter of Samuel Woodson Venable Sr and Mary Carrington. Mary V. Womack was named in her father's will which was recorded Sept 17, 1821 Pr. Ed. Co, VA. Samuel in his will gave his daughter Mary land in Halifax Co, VA which he had bought from William Boyd. This land at the time of Samuel's will was commonly called Cannon's tract. --- (I checked in PROPERTY LINES FROM AN OLD SURVEY BOOK by R.C.Dodson and sure enough on pg 66 (&64) I found a survey for John Cannon on Polecat Creek in Halifax Co,VA dated 28&30 Nov 1747. Could it be possible that the land that William Boyd later sold to Samuel Woodson Venable Sr be a part of John Cannon's land surveyed earlier in 1747 on Polecat Creek?) --- Now Mary's brother Abraham Venable was permitted by their father in his will to have the use of the Cannon tract of land until his mother died. She died in 1837 and Abraham got his own land and Mary V. Womack got the Cannon tract of land in Halifax Co,VA which had been sold to her father by William Boyd. Mary's husband was maybe William Womack. Which William Womack is he? Does anyone know anything else about this land? Doretta

Thanks Sam - Your posting helps some in sorting out those WILLIAM Womacks. William M.Womack and wife Mary Carrington Venable may have or may not have lived in Halifax Co VA. I don't know, but they for sure had land there. The big question is: Who got the land? Did they sell it or pass it on to issue? I wonder if William and wife left Wills somewhere. Answers to these questions might be found there. --- Also Sam, in looking over some notes, it looks like your Mary who married Jacob Womack (son of Alex Jr) has some family connections with Halifax Co VA. Susannah "Suckey" (Mary's sister) named in her mother's will as Susannah Stegall(married Frederick Stegall) had a daughter named Elizabeth Stegall who married William C Womack and was a niece of your Mary. Anyway it seems that William C Womack's full name is William Creed Womack and is a Brother to Henry and Miles Womack of Halifax Co VA. (Miles Womack married Frances Hawkins). I must add that Susannah and Frederick Stegall had a granddaughter named Ann S Stegal who married _____ Womack. Ann S. and husband had a daughter named Mary S Womack. I lack proof for most of this, but I do welcome it and do very much believe in it. I have in my small way been trying to sort out some Womacks by looking at their family connections. Doretta

You are welcome as far as that info goes - but one statement you made puczzles me.

"Also Sam, in looking over some notes, it looks like your Mary who married Jacob Womack (son of Alex Jr) has some family connections with Halifax Co VA. Susannah "Suckey" (Mary's sister) named in her mother's will as Susannah Stegall(married Frederick Stegall) had a daughter named Elizabeth Stegall who married William C Womack and was a niece of your Mary."

Are you associating Susannah as a Womack?? Not so, she was a Cole, product of her second marriage, half sister to Mary. A slight problem has risen recently with Mary tho. Her brother and sister (surname Wills) were named in her Grandfather Whitlocks will in 1769. She was not - this would indicate she was born after the will; but her father Dr (George) Wills was named as deceased in that will -- This would mean she was born either late in 1769 or early 1770 - some censuses indicate between 1760-70.

So her father died before the will. And she had to have been conceived prior to the will; but born after for that to happen. So, there has to be a fine time line here as her son Daniel's Bible names her as Mary Wills..probably the confusion of her being a Cole - her mother and John Cole didnt get married until Aug 1772..Charlotte Co VA..

I have a transcript of Josiah Whitlock's will - as well as a marriage bond for Mary and John Cole, and what appears to be a primitive prenuptual agreement - got on a disc somewhere arouond here --

This is getting interesting. Maybe there is some clues here on Marks line as well. If Elizabeth Stegall married William Creed Womack (brother of Henry and Miles)these Womacks might be a close relation to this line of Womacks. I do have a Charles L. Womack in my database who married Ann Stegall Dec 7, 1859 in Granville Co., North Carolina. but didn't have his parents, who went there?

Woodlawn on the Staunton River

The early history of Woodlawn is the land which Daniel Hutson
of Charlotte County sold to Abram Womack, of Halifax
County, a tract of land, containing 480 acres, on
the waters of Beaver Greek and Staunton River.
Kenneth Cook, the writer of this article, from the
News & Record Staff written or published on
September 17, 1976 states the following:

"Ten years later, in 1779 (exact date not given;
deed presented at court on February 17, 1780), Abram
Womack sold to John Coleman, likewise of Halifax
County, the same tract of land, 480 acres. The deed
stated that it was the land "whereon the said Womack
now lives, together with all houses, orchards,
gardens, fences, woods, underwoods, waters,
watercourses and appurtenances whatsoever..." The
purchase price was 2500 pounds, more than seven
times what Womack had paid for it!"

"Land tax records for the period, which might shed
light on the property, are gone. From past
experience, however, only one thing would likely
cause such an increase in the value of a tract of
land--the building of a rather substantial
residence. Thus it can be said, with some degree of
certainty, that Woodlawn was built during this
10-year period."

Dreec@EKNS.Net

Sorry Sam. MY GOOF! I know that Mary and Susannah were half-sisters, but sometimes in my thinking I kind of blend families too much and forget to write half (or step) as the case may be. Thanks for reminding me about Mary. Forgets like mine do sometimes make problems in sorting out families. I will try not to do too much blending in the future. --- I might add that Susannah Stegall maybe also had a great granddaughter named Virginia J Stigall that married Julius Caesar Snead. Juiius was the son of Susannah Rebecca Hudson and Charles Henry Snead. Susannah Rebecca seems to be a daughter of Mary A Womack and Julius Caesar Hudson. Mary A. was sister to Henry, Miles and William Creed Womack. And I might add that maybe a nephew of Charles Henry Snead was Lewellen Snead who married Rebecca J Womack. I have been trying to sort out Hudsons and Sneed/Sneads since my husband's line (Miles & Frances) had several contacks with them. Jefferson Davis Womack married 1st Mary/Molly Hudson and 2nd Lucy T Sneed/Snead and Jeff's sister Lillie for sure married William Hudson before 1889. I think William Hudson is William Robert Hudson who married a Lillie Womack in 1884. This Lillie in 1884 had a Rebecca sign for her. I think Lillie's mother Mary C Womack had died and Rebecca was Lillie's guardian. I don't yet have proof of this, nor do I know who this Rebecca is. Lots of Rebeccas and if you count Henry's mother that makes four I think. If anyone finds my Lillie Womack ANYWHERE on the 1880 Census, please let me know. Lilly may be living with her mother, Mary C, if Mary is still living or if Mary is already dead then Lillie might be living with this Rebecca. Anyway I understand that a Rebecca signed for a Lillie Womack to marry in Halifax in 1884 a William Robert Hudson. I bet she is my Lillie but I don't yet know for sure. --- Roger, It is great to hear from you. If you, Doris, Sam or anyone else can make heads or tails out of my postings and can find clues in any of them to tie Miles and Henry's lines into the main Womack Bunch of Womacks, I would be SO HAPPY. Doretta

OK More Stegall etc -

On Rogers posting of Charles Womack and Ann Stegall
closest thing I can find...
William STEGALL
Born: Abt 1811 Place: , , Nc
Married: Abt 1830 Place: , , Nc

Esther ?
Born: Abt 1813 Place: , , Nc
Married: Abt 1830 Place: , , Nc

Ann STEGALL
Born: Abt 1842 Place: , , Nc

Ann had 11 siblings
No info on William's parents, etc no info on
Ann's spouse, but this puts her in the ballpark
for an 1859 marriage...

Unfortunately, either Granville Co was totally left off
the census indexing, or there were no Womacks there in
1840 thru 1880...using soundex to search Ancestry..

At best, there must have been a movement of Womacks;
and they happened to be in NC in 1859 and Charles met
Ann and they were married and moved on...things
happened like that back then...

Sam---Thanks for that data on Lillie. I will study it later. Lillie can wait for now. I have just run on to these relationships that follow. I find them quite interesting and most likely others will too. Sam, we will start with your Mary Whitlock who married George Wills and John Cole and was the mother of Mary Wills Womack and Susannah Cole Stegall. Mary had a sister Elizabeth Whitlock. Elizabeth married William Foster who had a brother Josiah Foster who married Elizabeth Johnson. (Also another brother of theirs, Robert Foster married Charity _____). Now Beth, this Elizabeth Johnson was a sister to your Sarah Johnson who married (Jacob/Peter) Womack (you know, our Bubba). Most of this is from RootsWeb and needs yet to be proved. Doretta

Here is something I sent off for. It came from the Allen County Public Library in Indiana.

JOHNSON WOMACK - REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIER
By William M. Bailey

On the 12th day of December in year 1832 Johnson Womack (the correct spelling is Womack and the name is variously spelt as Wamock - used in all pension applications; Womack; and Warmack) applied for a Revolutionary War pension in Washington Co., Territory of Arkansas. This application was made under the Revolutionary Claim Act of Congress dated June 7, 1832 which provided pensions to those who fought in the Revolutionary War. According to his testimony in his second pension application, this first request was turned down because of “want of precision in setting out the length of his service and for want of conformity with the regulations prescribed by the department”

On the 30th day of October in the year 1837, Johnson Womack made a second pension application in the County of Madison, state of Arkansas. On this application a pension of $33.22 per year was approved and a certificate was issued on March 29, 1838 as Pension Number S32577. This pension was to start on the 4th day of March 1831 and his initial payment of $238.66 included arrears of $222.00 and a current amount of $16.66.

Johnson Womack was born in Goochland Co., Virginia on January 2, 1762 and was the son of Jacob Womack and Sarah Johnson. Joseph Johnson of Virginia mentions in his will in 1761 Sarah Womack and Jacob Womack among others. Two other daughters and sons-in-law named children Johnson which is no doubt how our Johnson Womack received his name.

Johnson Womack volunteered several times for service during the Revolutionary War. The first time was on June 20th 1780 from Burke County, North Carolina. He served under Captain Jonathon Kemp in a regiment commanded by Colonel Charles McDowell for a period of 4 months and 5 days. He entered service the second time on April 15th 1781 from Georgia and served a period of 2 months under Captain Joshua Inman. The third enlistment on July 1st 1781 was for 3 months and 24 days from Georgia under Captain Abner Beckham in a regiment commanded by Colonel Thomas Lewis. It was during this last service that he was wounded in the side. Total service for Johnson Womack during the Revolutionary War was 9 months and 24 days.

Jacob Womack is listed on Washington County, Tennessee Tax Lists in 1778, listed in Burke County, North Carolina, and listed in the 1790 census in Pendleton, South Carolina. Johnson Womack is listed in a 1799 Tax List in Grainger County, Tennessee; on the 1815-1816 Tax List for Arkansas Territory in Lawrence County; and on the 1820 Census in Lawrence County, Territory of Arkansas. He came to Washington County, Territory of Arkansas sometime before 1832 and settled in what was to become Madison County near the Washington County line. The locations listed above for Jacob Womack and Johnson Womack are the same as stated in the two Pension Applications.

The 1840 Madison County, Arkansas Census shows a John Womack at 40 to 50 years, a Jacob Womack at 30 to 40 years, and a David Womack at 30 to 40 years all living in Richland Township and a Pleasant Womack at 20 to 30 years living in War Eagle Township. There is no one named Womack in the 70 to 80 year bracket listed in the same census, so presumably, Johnson Womack must have died between 1837 and 1840. At this time we do not know the exact date of death nor where he is buried.

There are several local residents listed in the two Pension Applications. Some of them are listed in the 1840 Madison County, Arkansas Census. All are stated in the Pension Applications as living in the neighborhood of Johnson Womack.

Pension Application - 1832

James Wilson - Crawford County
John Wilson - Washington County
George M. Robinson- Washington County
James Byrnside - Washington County
All four above testified as to character and signed the Pension Application.
B. H. Smithson - Washington County Clerk of Court
Edward Cross - Washington County Judge

Pension Application - 1837

Charles B. Whiteby - Madison County Clergyman
Martin Johnson - Madison County 1840 Census
Pleasant Johnson - Madison County 1840 Census
Bunch Homesly or Hornsby - Madison County (Possibly Homesley as several 1840 Census)
Randolph R. Coffer - Madison County
All five of the above testified as to character and signed the Pension Application.
H. B. Brown - Madison County Clerk of Court
I. M. Hoge - Madison County Judge

I am indebted to Mrs Patricia L. Jackson of Warrenton, Virginia for the information on Tax Lists and early Census Lists for both Johnson and Jacob Womack. Also, for the information on Jacob Womack and Sarah Johnson. Mrs Jackson is descended from Johnson Womack and has much information on the family. However, as usual, there is missing information which we need such as date of death of Johnson Womack and where he is buried.

There is one discrepancy to note. In the second Pension Application, Johnson Womack stated he had previously applied for a Pension in 1835. The actual date was 1832.

OOPS!! We goofed…… In the Winter 1988 the Volume number should be VII and the Spring 1989 and Summer 1989 should be Volume IIX. Please change this on your copies as it might save a little confusion later on………………Ed

Pension Application - Johnson Womack #S32577

State of Arkansas
County of Madison

On this 30th day of October 1837, personally appeared in open Court before Joseph M. Hoge sole Judge of the Circuit Court (a court of record) in and for the County of Madison aforesaid in court sitting Johnson Wammack a resident of the county and state aforesaid, aged seventy five years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provisions made by the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1732.

That he entered into the service of the United States a private in the volunteer malitia company of Horsemen or mounted Gun-men commanded by Captain Jonathan Kemp, at an old field Capt Kemp’s muster ground, near Pleasant Gardens on the Catawba River in the county of Burke and State of North Carolina and it is his best recollection on or about 20th of June 1780. That from thence he proceeded in said company under command of Capt Kemp to Caney Creek a branch of Broad River near the County-line of Rutherford County (N.C.) where said company rendezvoused and remained several days, and were, with other companies, comprehending in all, about three hundred men, placed under command of Colonel Charles Mc Dowel. Whilst at said rendezvous, receiving intelligence, that Colo. Furguson commanding a superior force of British and Tories, was marching to attack us, we retreated in the direction to the Watauga River about five miles, where we were overtaken and fired on by a detachment from Furguson’s division commanded Maj. Dunlap. We returned their fire, but being unable to contend with so superior a force, we retreated to the Powder-Mills on a creek near the Watauga River where we joined a Virginia Regiment commanded by Colo. Campbell. In this little engagement, we had one man killed (Peter Branks) and we took three prisoners, one a Dragoon, and the others private Tories. From the Powder mills we proceeded under command of Colonels Campbell and Mc Dowel southward over a mountainous country to a place called Linville-Cove on waters of the Catawba River where we encamped for several days. From Linville-Cove, Capt Kemp’s company was detached up the Catawba in quest of a Tory party under Capt. Branham; upon our approach Branham’s party retreated and we rejoined Colonels Campbell and Mc Dowal about forty miles from Linville-Cove. In the meantime, receiving a large reinforcement, Colonels Campbell and Mc Dowel no longer avoided an engagement with Furguson; but marched in pursuit; whilst on our march Richard Coody ------ French and this declaring were sent westward through the mountains to conduct to the main army, a small party of Georgia Troops, part of Colonel Clark’s command, of which we had received intelligence. We found and conducted a few men of said party into the settlement, who, being sick and unable to proceed, we left them and repaired to the main army on Broad River shortly after the battle of Kings-Mountain. From thence we proceeded on our return as far as Colo. Walkers in Rutherford County (N. C.) when we discharged on or about 25th of October 1780 as is declarants best recollection.

Declarant again entered into the service of the United states, a private in the volunteer military company of mounted Gun-men, or Horsemen under Captain Kemp’s and, as is his best recollection, on or about the 15th April 1781. From Capt Kemp’s Inman proceeded with his company to join, and did join General Green at the siege of Ninety- Six, Inman, with his company went to Augusta in Georgia and assisted in taking Burntfoot Brown’s Fort and Fort Grayson after declarant was discharged at Augusta on or about 25th June 1781 as is his best recollection.

On or about the 1st July 1781, as is his best recollection, declarant again entered into the service of the United States, a private under Capt Abner Beckman commanding a volunteer company of mounted militia at Spirit Creek Bridge in the State of Georgia, said company being part of a Regiment of which Francis Boykin was Maj., Thomas Lewis Colo. And all under command of General Twiggs.

The Tories having committed great depredations in the neighborhood of Spirit Creek Bridge where Gen’l Twiggs was encamped, parties were sent to explore the country, ascertain the position, force and movements of the Tories, and to guard the inhabitants from further annoyance. Declarant, Jesse Boykin, Richard Coody, and ----Finn were detached, with orders to explore the country in the neighborhood of John Pinnion a Tory Capt, collect information relatively to the force, position, and designs of the Tories and report themselves to Maj. Boykin at the Widow Aldays near Waynesborough on the waters of Brier Creek. Whilst on said service passing through Pinnion’s land, we were fired on by the Tories, and declarant receiving a ball in his right side fell from his horse. The Tories did not repeat their fire, but retired, and declarant was assisted by his party and put on Coody’s horse, his having run off when he fell from him. He was conducted by Coody and his party to the Widow Aldays where they were met by Maj. Boykin. From Aldays we proceeded to Gen’l Twiggss encampment at Spirit Creek Bridge. On our way, we were attacked by a party of Tories under Cap’t Pinnion, an engagement ensued, the Tories were repulsed, their Capt (Pinnion) killed, and Phillip Thomas, a private wounded in the knee. The ball lodged in declarants side was cutout, and he remained in the Hospital at the Bridge until he was sufficiently recovered to travel when he received a written discharge signed by General Twiggs, Colo. Lewis, Major Boykin and Capt Beckham on or about the 25th of October 1781, as is his best recollection and returned home.

Declarant on his oath states, that by reasonof old age and the consequent loss of memory he cannot swear positively as to the precise length of service, but according to the best of his recollection, he served not less than the periods mentioned below, and in the grade of private soldier (to wit) I served as a private under Capt Kemp in Colo Mc Dowel’s Regt as stated above, for four months, and five days. I served as a private under Capt Inman as stated above, Colo Lewis’s Regiment and under General Twiggs, as stated above for three months and twenty-four days, forming a total of nine months and twenty-nine days and for such service I claim a pension.

Declarant on his oath further states, that in the year 1835 he procured his declaration for a pension to be made out and signed and swore to the same, in the Circuit Court of Washington County then Territory now state of Arkansas; that he obtained a favorable decision thereon by the Hon’l Archibald Yell then Judge of said Court, that said declaration shortly afterwards, as this declarant is informed was forwarded by his attorney David Walker to the War Department. That the Commissioner of Pensions, as he is informed suspended his said claim, principally for want of precision in setting out the length of his service and for want of conformity with the regulations prescribed by the department, but not decide on the merits. That his said Declaration has not been returned to him. That he has frequently endeavored to procure a second application to be forwarded, but has been unable hitherto to do so. That from want of education, and a knowledge of business of this kind, want of health and disappointment of those on whom he depended to draft his declaration, and not to an abandonment of his claim, are to be ascribed his long delay in a second application for a Pension.

The Declarant, on his oath states, that he has no documentary evidence to offer, and knows of no witness by whom he can prove his services as a Revolutionary Soldier. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a Pension or annuity except the present, and declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of any Agency in any State or Territory.

And the said Court in conformity with the requisitions of the department of War propounded to the declaring the questions (following) to which, on his oath he answerth as follows (to wit) .
1st Where, and in what year were you born? I was born in Goochland County State of Virginia on the 2nd day of January 1762, as I have been informed and believe.
2nd Have you any record of your age, and if so, where is it? I have no Record of my age.
3rd Where were you living when called into the service? Where have you lived since the Revolutionary War, and where do you now live? When called into service, I lived in Burke County State of North Carolina. Since the Revolutionary War, I have lived in Pendleton South Carolina in State of Tennessee, in Lawrence, Crawford, and Washington Counties in the State of Arkansas, and I now live in Madison, a new County taken from Washington County State of Arkansas.
4th How were you called into service, were you drafted, did you volunteer, or were you a substitute, and if a substitute for whom? I volunteered.
5th State the names of some of the Regular Officers who were with the troops where you served, such continential and militia regiments as you can recollect and the general circumstances of your servvice? General Green commanded at the seige of Ninety-Six whilst I was there; I know of no other Regular Officer whose name I remember who was with the troops at anytime when I served. Colonel McDowel’s, Colo. Campbell’s and Colo. Lewises volunteer Militia regiments are all I can now recollect so as to name them, although there were other Regiments in service where I served. The preceeding part of this declaration embraces, so far as I now remember all the material circumstances attending my service.
6th Did you ever receive a discharge from the service, and if so, by whom was it given, and what has become of it? I was always discharged, but with exception of one, the discharges were verbal only. At Spirit Creek Bridge, I received a written discharge, given me by Capt Beckham, as I believe and signed by him and other Officers as before herein stated. It got out of my possession many years ago, I know not how, nor what has become of it.
7th State the names of persons to whom you are known in your present neighborhood and who can testify as to your character for veracity, and their belief of your service as a Soldier of the Revolution? I refer to Martin Johnson, Pleasant M. Johnson, Randolph R. Caffee (?) and Bunch Homesby (names signed) in my neighborhood, who, amongst others, would, I doubt not bear testimony to my character for truth, and their belief of my services as a Soldier of the Revolution.

ATTN: Geneva did you not get this post at Genealogy.com or was this guy wrong

Geneva,

My records show that Henderson Black (b. ~1806 in North Carolina and d. after 1880 in Kentucky) married Nicey W. Bazzell (b. 1806 in North Carolina and d. after 1880 in Kentucky) on 21 March 1826 in Williamson County, Tennessee. Henderson and Nicey had five children of record born in Calloway County, Kentucky, i.e., Nancy L. Black (b. 12 January 1827), Robert Monroe Black (b. 19 April 1830), James Robert (b. December 1833), Mary E. Black (b. 1844), and Thomas S. Black (b. 31 December 1845). I believe that this Henderson Black was the son of Robert Black (b. ~1769 in North Carolina and d. ~1806 in North Carolina) and Lucy Gill (b. 1770 in North Carolina and d. 1854 and married Robert Black on 8 February 1792 in Caswell County, North Carolina). Henderson Black had one sibling that I am aware of, i.e., William Hardy Black who was born in 1793 in either Tennessee or North Carolina and married Frances Bazzell. In the 1880 Census Henderson Black was a farmer living in Brinkley, Calloway County, Kentucky with his wife Nicey and unmarried daughter Mary E. Black. Afraid that this is all that I have but hope it helps some.

A message fron Darrell restated Judith Hatchet married William Furkering. This I believe to be in error. First, there are no Furkerings. Second where is the documentation for such a marriage. The Court document that refers to Judith does not mention her husband. William Hatchet was mentioned next and someone has connected the Wiiliam to Furkering. It should read Furkeron using a spelling of that time. Her descendants use various spellings Fourqurean, Ferqueron, Furqueron, Furcron and others. The following Court record details her family.

William Furqueron, Daniel Furqueron, John Furqueron, Bartlett Furqueron & James Furqueron, children of Judith Furqueron, deceased; - Also John Blacklege and Miney his wife formaly Miney Newby & Edward Newby an infant under the age of 21 years by Edward Furqueron his next friend which said Miney & Edward are the children of Martha Newby formerly Martha Furqueron also one of the children of said Judith, deceased - Also Levy and Polly Furqueron infant children of Samuel Furqueron, dec'd - by Edward Furqueron their next friend which said Samuel was also one of the children of the said Judith deceased: - Also Elizabeth Newby {an infant by her father Nathaniel Newby} the issue of Polley Furqueron, now deceased, who was also one of the children of said Judith dec'd - Daniel Ferguson & Nancy his wife formerly Nancy Furqueron - Also William Hancock & Salley his wife, formerly Salley Furqueron, now deceased - which said Nancy and Salley are also children of the said Judith Furqueron, deceased

She was the wife of John Furqueron of Chesterfield Co. VA. She was already widowed at the time of the document listing her as Judith Furkering and that is why John is not listed. I have numerous documents and examples of how my family name has been mispelled and misread over the years.

Please contact me with any questions or evidence you have supporting or contrary to this.

Do you have any information on a Vashti Womack b. 1813 NC died after 1880, she married Griffin Gunn on September 18, 1837 he was born 3-9-1812 died Aug. 1870.
She was the daughter of David Womack and Delilah Graves Womack.
Do you know where they are buried? I know they were living in Rockingham County, NC (had moved from Caswell County, NC). Do you have any dates for Vashti on birth and death?
I know of six children - William A. Gunn wed Henrietta Leach, one child Henry.

My husband was Albert Linwoood Womack,Jr.of Richmond, VA. I have never looked into his genealogy and one of his nephews is interested so I may begin.
He was told that the family came into this country at Bermuda Hundred near Hopewell,VA. There was a Womack owning a lot in the early 1800s over on the south side of the James River. His family are buried in a cemetary on that side of the river also.

My husband's father left the family and enlisted in WW1 and never returned so he and his sister did not keep in touch. The father finally died in Seattle, WA. and we were located by a dau. from Neb. about 12 years ago.

Does anyone know of this branch of the family? My husband was the only
son. He was an architect here in Richmond and also served in the Navy in WW11 as a Lt. Commander. I am interested in finding any others from this branch of Womacks.

Sam, Beth, Doris, Mark --- I read a message board that Mark was looking for the parents of Sarah who had married William Nash/Naish Sr. I can't answer his question, but I found on RootsWeb that their son William Jr married on 22 Dec 1797 Halifax Co VA (by Rev Leonard Baker) to Elizabeth Bentley. (Sur. Nathan B Stegal). (Quoted source: Marriages of Halifax Co VA 1753-1800, pg 67). Now Elizabeth Bentley seems to be the daughter of Samuel Bentley Jr and Elizabeth Younger. Elizabeth Younger seems to have married 2nd Benjamin Thurmond who was maybe the grandson of Richard and Henrietta (Henley?) Henderson. Now Richard Henderson' brother Samuel Henderson married Elizabeth Williams, the sister of Col John Williams. This John Williams married Mary Womack. --- Now there was in Halifax Co VA, a Samuel Bentley (Jr or Sr, I don't know) who was a witness for a land deed Dec 28 1776 (Source quoted: Deed Book 10 of Halifax Co VA, pg 29). (It mentions - using another spelling of Womack - a Thomas and wife Sarah.) Also there was a Samuel Bentley present when an indenture was made 24 Nov 1780. (Source quoted: Halifax Co VA Deed Book 12, 1780-1784 Reel5 pp85-86). (This record seems to be about the earlier history of Pole Cat Creek?) --- Also I might add that the above Benjamin T Thurmond had three Thurmond grandchildren (siblings) who married three Johnson siblings. The great-great grandparents of these Johnson siblings seem to be Michael Johnson and Sarah Watson who were the grandparents of Sarah Johnson the wife of Jacob(Peter) Womack. --- Doretta

Hi all, I posted a family history file at my website. This is a descendants list for Jordan Henry Womack and Elizabeth Lane. Hopefully, this will help a few people who are searching this line, especially in eliminating some Arkansas Womacks from other lines. Beth said she had a problem with clicking on the link so you might try pasting it into the URL line. A good portion of this work is the result of leads provided on this website and thanks are due to Roger and Sam and Beth for their help over the last year.

Mary Wammack
maryirene826@yahoo.com OR irene826@yahoo.com

I was just wondering, if someone has passed away, should we inform someone that works on this site about it? My father, John Edward Wammack, is listed in the directory with an email address. By my opening question, you can guess that My news is that he has passed away November 23, 2004 in Chicago Heights, IL at 1015pm Central Time. I too, Mary Irene Wammack, am listed on this site so if anyone has questions about him or his line, feel free to ask and i'll see what i can do. At this moment, All i can say is that his father is Robert Dwayne Wammack from Mississippi (I believe) and he is still alive (in his 70's). Robert is one of nine children and i only remember that his mother's name is Johnnie Pearl. I dont know her madien name. She passed away in the 1960-70's. not sure what decade. Robert also has a sister with the same name and she is the youngest of the kids. She is the only other survivor of the kids besides my grandfather, Robert. The only other thing about our line i know is that there was a Wammack male who married 3 sisters... and had three kids. I think it was one by the first sister and two by the second sister. I dont remeber names... and i can only guess the time period being in the 1800's.
If anyone can give me helpful hints on how i can go about finding out more about my line, that would be greatly appreciated. I do not check this site often...i actually came on the site today because i was thinking about my father. If you could please email me with your responses, i would appreciate it as well. Thank you.

Hello, This is my first visit to a Womack page. I haven't done any research so I don't have much info. My father was Bond Marshall Womack Jr., born Gary Indiana 1937; son of Bond Marshall Womack Sr. and Hellen Cranford or Crawford (maiden) Womack. I don't have any info on Bond Jr's. grandparents. As I have skimmed throught the website pages I don't find any Womacks from the Chicago/Illinois area. Our family is caucasion; other Womacks I have heard of are Black. 2 questions: 1. Are most of the ancestors I see in these pages Black or Caucasion? 2. Any info out there on Bond Marshall Womacks/ancestors?
Thanks,
Sharon

Sharon, my first cousin - once removed lives in Chicago. And he's about as lilly white as they come. He's also a lawyer, but don't hold that against him. Any black Womacks are likely descendants of slaves or in some other way acquired the name.

Since the bug has bitten you - happy hunting.

Sharon, without going to my other computer and looking harder, I think Bond Sr died in 1981 and his father was William Wesley Womack. There are Womacks in practically every state and they come in every shade of color. White, black, native american, varying percentages of all of the above - you hang out in the southern states for 350 years plus additional immigrations to and from several other countries anything is possible. Some of this was in my files -
some from Ancestry.com tho it was a bit off in the beginning from mine.

Ancestry info was submitted by flyakite@widomaker.com - whether that is still a valid
address is questionable..
another Ancestry for a Bond M and Helen Crawford Womack was tleckbee@leckbee.com again validity of address
questionable..

Question: Was Bond Jr's wifes maiden name Wagner? Unfortunately, the first names
of himself, wife and children are blanked out as living...that would indicate the data
were posted prior to Jr's death:

Greetings from a member of one of the "Lost Tribes of Jesse W. WOMACK and Martha Emmanuel." I understand that some of you have been looking for us...

I am a descendant of his son Edward C. WOMACK, b. 1841 and Sarah A. JORDAN, b. 1845. Edward and Sarah's daughter, Martha Ella, married Elihu Littleberry KIRKSEY in Brown Co., Texas in 1879. They had 14 children, 13 of which survived to adulthood, the oldest of which, John Edward KIRKSEY, was my great grandfather.

Sarah died in 1891. Edward died in 1912. They are both buried in the Zephyr Cemetery in Brown County on US Highway 84 just east of Brownwood. I have visited their graves several times.

For many years I have wondered who Edward and Sarah's ancestors were. I knew that they had come from Louisiana but that was all. I occasionally would try to research this family but always found a brick wall.

I was only able to finally make the connection last week to my JORDAN and WOMACK ancestors after finding Mark Manley's excellent web site. He is a descendant of Sarah A. JORDAN's brother, John Calvin JORDAN, a
