Hi, my Great Great Grandmother was RUTH MORRIS MEEKS. It looks like we share an ancestor. She married my Great Great Grandffather, William Wesley Sherrill, and after he died, she married Larkin A. Womack. So their son George F. Womack would be my Great Half Uncle, and grew up with my Sherrill Great Uncles. David Meeks Sherrill is my Great Grandfather.

I have been researching the Sherrill family and came across your website. Would you happen to have any info on Ruth's first husband, William? I'm looking for his parents.

Thank You, Marilyn

Marilyn,
Dates, places please - give us a place to start -- given the name Meeks, I might assume OK as a starting point but............

Marilyn, George Farris Womack is my great-grandfather. I haven't done much research on the Sherrill lines but I have John Wesley Sherrill, sp. Frances True as the parents of William Wesley Sherrill who married Ruth Morris Meeks, later marrying Larkin A. Womack, my gg.

Hi Sam,
Yes, it looks like we are cousins!
By the way, I may have a clue for you when you start looking at Womacks in Phoenix. My grandmother, Buella Bemis Spaulding (whose mother was Oda Maude Womac), refers in her writings to a "cousin Steve" in Phoenix - this would have been between 1909 and the 1930's. I was always puzzled by who "Steve" was, as I knew of no cousins there. Anyway, maybe he was a Womack?
Thanks again-
Erin

Back in Oct there was an exchange between Doug and Ann McD concerning
a family with a Cubbee or Cubby Womack, b. abt 1882....

Well, I know where he was in 1911 anyway as evidenced by the b/c
of a daughter:

Source, Arizona Territorial Board of Health, Territorial Index
118; County Register 62, Local Registrar's No 21,
Layton, Graham Co, AZ

Marie Wommack, b, May 1, 1911, number in order of birth 2

Father: Cubby Wommack, age 23, b. Choctaw Nation, farmer...
Mother: Bertha Clark, age 20, b. Arkansas, housewife

Bertha and Cubby died after 1953 (if in AZ anyway) as their death certificates
are not availabe (must have died 50 or more years ago); or, they died in another state than AZ -
neither are on the SSA death index that I can find...

Nor were they on the 1910-20-30 AZ censuses - probably passing thru when Marie was born??
Also not on OK 1910; CA 1920-30; NV 1920-30; ID 1920-30; OR 1920-30; NM 1920-30
checked out OK also in case they went back -- nil there -- they must have dropped out somewhere....

on "Cousin Steve." cannot find a Steve of Bemis, Spaulding, nor Womack on
Censuses from 1910-30 in AZ - could have been a cousin by marriage thru her
husband and of another last name -- Also no death cert thru 1953....

DAvid,
Thanks - I was looking for Cubbie/Cubby and missed it -- also that 1910 census page wasnt loading correctly - it is now --

Question to anyone -- Any of you use Compaq computers? I have had one with a
2.53g chip for about 3 months - it is the slowest computer I have ever owned - my old 486 is faster - as is my laptop running 1/2 chip on battery -- unfortunately I waited too long to take it back to Wally World (15 days); and
can get no support out of HP/Compag - no service after the sale I guess???

This one cannot run two programs at the same time very well, I try to go from one to another and it locks for up to 3 minutes -- I keep the junk out of it, use cleansweep religiously -- no hidden bugs to slow it down - frustrating --
Got any ideas short of replacing the motherboard and chip - let me know --

It will sound some how to let you know the critical condition am facing in order to locate my elder blood brother called (George) burned in Dallas, Texas in United State Of America ( USA) whom my Dad left because setting problems that arose on him but finally found himself in Nigeria like a dream that never meant to happen at all. My Fatherís name is (Mr. Joseph O. Nwani). According to his statement, He said that child called George was born on the year 1968 and he left him and the mum in the year 1970 back to Nigeria. So barely 34-35 years now, we have not gotten in touch with him and that had become a serious problem on locating my blood brother in USA. My Dad lost all the credentials that concern the baby and that of the Mother but that of the year of birth he remembered.
I sincerely need help from you people out there who will be able help and advice on possible way I can get in touch with him despite years far spent.

Daniel Ray Womack
dwomack@san.rr.com

I was here back in 1998 asking for records. A kind soul (perhaps Roger?) provided quite an extensive pedigree chart for me with dates of birth, death, marriage, etc. Those records were kept on paper for a long while and unfortunately got destroyed. I finally got a PAF program and have begun trying to recover those records. I was wondering if someone would be able to send whatever they can to me so I can fill out my PAF and start researching whatever information is missing, plus my mother's side?

Info on me: Born Daniel Ray Womack 17 JUN 1978 to Steven Ray Womack and Cheryl Ann Kleitgen. Sister Stephanie Lynn Womack born 7 APR 1982. I married Victoria Lynn Bartlett on 14 AUG 1999. She was born 21 JUN 1978 in San Diego, CA to Peter Emery Bartlett and Teresa Jean Malonee.
DAD: Steven Ray Womack born 18 MAR 1952 to Daniel Otto Womack (b.1920)and Wanda Irene May. His brother was Glen Edward and sisters Mona Louise and Gay Ellen. He married Cheryl Ann Kleitgen 14 AUG 1976 in Montclair, CA. They divorced in 1987 and he then married Sue Ann Oakley in 1992. Sue Ann had two sons Richard Holden and James Holden to her first husband. There was a husband between Mr. Holden and my dad.
DAD's dad: Daniel Otto Womack, Jr born 11 AUG 1920 to Daniel Otto Womack, Sr and Ramola Caroline Chestnut. They had married 23 MAY 1919.
DAD's mom: Wanda Irene May born I believe 1 SEP but not sure the year.
MOM: Cheryl Ann Kleitgen born 30 DEC 1960 to William Walter Kleitgen (b.1922)and Emily Burlow. Her Brother William Joseph, and sister Bonnie. Half-brother Larry Phillips born to Emily Burlow in her first marriage. Cheryl married Steven Ray Womack 14 AUG 1976 and had my sister Stephanie and I. She divorced Steven in 1987 and married William Thomas Duryea (b. 14 JUN 1960 in Brooklyn, NY) on 18 JUN 1988. They had a daughter together Rachel Ann Duryea born 2 JAN 1992.
MOM's dad: William Walter Kleitgen born 29 APR 1922 to William Jacob Kleitgen and his wife.
MOM's mom: Emily Burlow born 5 DEC not sure the year. Her mom was Frances Elizabeth Burlow. Brother Charles (Chuck) lives in New York. She lives in Montclair, CA.

Thanks for whatever can be given. Feel free to email me at dwomack@san.rr.com

I am inquiring about the slave descendants of the Womack family. My gggrandfather is Peter Clark from St. Helena Parish Louisiana. He married Rebecca Youngblood in 1874 and his marraige bon was posted by William H. Tillery. According to the 1880 census, his parents are from Virginia. I have a strong feeling that Peter's parents were slaves of the Womack's who were brought to St Helena Parish.

I would love to connect. I actually have a picture of Peter Clark and would like to know more about the Womack and Tillery family connection. William H. Tillery is also living next door to my gggrandfather Thomas Youngblood in the 1870 census report of St. Helena Parish.

Thank you,

I get a lot of these when I send a raw mail not a reply to you.
What did you send and can you resend? If it was in reference to the Womack census I did receive it and I thank you very much. I did respond to it and thank you but it was not a reply. Seems that a lot of my mail to you is getting lost in the black hole of cyberspace or returned. I hope all the technical info on your computer problem I have sent you gets through. I can look up the messages from my sent mail file and resend if you like. I sent you some very good technical info on your computer problems, most of them were replys in hopes that they got thru. I sometimes forget to include the-----code word in the subject box and you refuse them. I understand your concern for your computer security and always try to include the word. If I fail blame it on a senior moment.

I'm at a loss as how to get through to you, perhaps Net Zero? Are you unable to receive mail or is it just me? Check your mail filters, firewall and Antivirus.
You stated you were running both Norton and AVG if so you may need to turn one of them off. If you are running Zone Alarm Firewall you need to turn the XP firewall off, also the Norton firewall that is a trial with your new XP computer. I know my replys toyour mail is not having any problems because you reply in turn. Therefore I suspect you need to either change some mail settings or pick one firewall and on anti-virus program and turn the others off. I just set up a PC just like yours for a friend, she had tried to install AOL 9.0 Optimized and it took me 10 hours to clean the junk out it placed in her registry. The problem with AOL 9.0 seems to be with the McAfee free antivirus that comes with it on the install disk. A WORD OF CAUTION,AOL 9.0 seems to be written for DSL users and a user on dial up service is going to have trouble. It is almost impossible to remove AOL, McAfee and Norton from a machine without going into the registry due to the shared DLL's. I do not advise ANYONE to tweak the registry unless they have the tech skills.
I have a computer that I am trying to recover a lady's Quick Books files from now that AOL 9.0 completely zapped, so beware of gifts in the form of a CD Disk.

FYI
Heads up on mail addresses in the WGN message pages.
The Nigerian scam artist are hard at work. The e mail harvesters have discovered us at WGN in a big way. It's a little late to close the gate but I have a possible solution to prevent the email address harvesting engines and others from collecting our addresses. Notice my address in this message, it is not a scanable link, yet you can use it to contact me. How you ask??? By simply removing the space I inserted before and after the @ mark. If we all did this and everyone knew to delete the spaces we would be well hidden fron the harvesting engines that is collecting addresses. Just another safeguard we can put in place if we will all apply it.
Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the tip Jack - was wondering why so many deposed dictators wanted my help.

I posted a few things to my web page today that may be of interest to a few people. ( I just found out I had one) and I don't know sh#$ from shinola about how to use it.

Any way I put some scanned images of a 19th Century Womack genealogy by Rev. Symonds- I had sent to Sam and Roger back in the summer. I think Sam got some use out of it.

Cannon Griffin married Winny(Winfred) Womack in Wake co N.C., Kinchen Griffin married Ferebe Womack the same year. I think these were brothers marrying sisters, of coure the were daughters of Albridgton Womack. I am trying to ascertain thru definitive research that Kinchen Griffin and Ferebe Womack are my ggg/grandparents. In my heart I think they are; there are to many trails leading me to that conclusion. They both appear in Walton co, Harris co. Georgia and 1860 appear in Randolph co, Al. "Their" son Yancy R. is my gg/grandfather(he appears at the age of 24 in the census(1850)of Harris co, Ga.
Just want to prove this, some of my kindred say this pure conjecture. Does any researcher have an answer. What info I could get would be greatly appreciated. As for as I know there is only one other person trying to prove this also; I have met her on the internet.

Warmest regards,

Jerry L Griffin

Your posting piqued my interest - reason the name Yancy -- neither yours nor the ones Ihave are mine but I do have a Yancy, born abt 1860 in LA, Mother Sallie bornin GA abt 1830 --

Then I have Yancy Toombs born abt 1864 in LA, father William Womack, born in GA, mother first name ? (maiden name Meyers says born in LA but..)- he died in Phoenix AZ in 1928-
Had son Yancy Jr died in CA 1966..

The name is not very common and I have been unable to trace William back any further so far - so Yancy may be a good clue to work with -- possibility I am clinging to is that the Sallie Womack - maiden name unknown, may be the unknown Meyers ---- very interesting -- except for the conflicting states of birth - but you know census info from back then!!

Will keep eyes open and let you know if I find anything..

Does these look like anything you may have for siblings of Yancy Sr??
They were on the census with a Yancy, b. abt 1860; mother Sallie born in GA, abt
1830...no male listed.. no husbant listed and am assuming William has died at this point -- 1870 census Red River Co TX, Family and household 1425, page 223.
Appears Robbinsville is the Post Office --

Mary Womack b: Abt. 1855 LA
Ophelia Womack b: Abt. 1856 LA
Sallie Womack b: Abt. 1857 LA
Ellas Womack b: Abt. 1858 LA

Would help me merge two files if so.....

Also do you know when and where Yancy Srs wife, Martha L Kerr, died??

If you dont have a copy of his death cert, can send to you...PDF file..

I'm trying to trace my geneology, but don't have much information to go on.
My dad (James Oscar Womack) had a severe stroke when he was 36 years old and
lost most of his memory. The only thing I have found was a obituary for his father (James E. Womack) who was survived by his wife Florence Goode Womack and his father Oscar L. Womack. I have since misplaced the obituary so I don't have any dates. I have lived in Henrico Co., Virginia all of my life and so has my father. Derrell,

I find it rather incredible that you can make this statement:

"HOPE THIS IS USEFUL SINCE I TEND TO HELP OTHERS BUT SINCE MY LAST NAME ISN'T WOMACK BUT AM LINKED TO WOMACKS BUT NOONE SEEMS TO WANT OR CAN HELP WITH MY LINE SEEMS TO ME UNLESS U HAVE SOMETHING THE WOMACKS NEED THEN THEY TEND TO NOT HELP OTHERS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO FEELS THIS WAY I HELP WOMACK LINES OTHERS SEEM NOT TO WANT TO HELP."

My name is not Womack and never has been. My paternal grandmother was a Womack. As soon as I posted the information I had obtained on her family, Roger Womack sent me a family group sheet on the line, beginning with Larkin Womack. Abiding by the law of reciprocity, I have in turn spent many hours researching census, marriage, tax and court records helping others, especially the Womacks of Arkansas.

There is no known documentation of Larkin Womack's father, but through many hours of research by Robert Burke and others, I'm fairly certain of his line. Your David Womack descends from the same line. Several times on this web page I answered your queries by giving you all the evidence we have of David's father.

Instead of blasphemous allegations about the lack of assistance you have received from the participants of this web page, may I suggest that you spend your time reviewing the data you've received. Go to Robert Burke's web page. Study his facts on Major Jacob Womack, Johnson Womack, the elder David Womack and Larkin Womack. Womack census records are found on Roger Womack's web page. If you don't have a clear understanding of Major Jacob Womack's ancestors, that information is readily available on the web. Hopefully you'll reach the same conclusion I have for the father of David Womack. If you don't, I'll gladly entertain your theory.

I know all about the frustrations of this research, and believe me, I have empathy for you. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.

Beth Howser

Hello Everybody ----- I have three things to mentioned in this post. FIRST - I check this site regularly hoping for some clue leading to a break through on my husband's Miles Womack line. Also I enjoy reading what is going on and I am glad and happy all of you keep me in reading material. This is a GREAT SITE! SECOND - Sam, I know you are aware of this source but others of you may not know of it. Anyway I thought I should post my thoughts on this family. In VIRGINIA GENEALOGIES by Hayden pub. 1966 pg 301/302 'Daniel Family', Sallie Daniel who married _____ Womack had two sons Daniel and John Womack. (Sallie went to KY). Hayden says Sallie is the daughter of William Daniel and Elizabeth Watkins. Now Elizabeth was a widow of Jacob Woodson with at least three kids when she married William Daniel. (Some where, most likely this site, I read that Womacks did marry into the Woodson Family.) Now Sallie had a brother named William Pride Daniel. Also Sallie had two sisters who married Fuqua fellows. Mary and John Fuqua lived in Charlotte Co, VA and Judith and Joseph Fuqua lived in Cumberland Co, VA. Also two other sisters of Sallie married Nelson fellows. Rhoda and Ambrose Nelson moved to KY and Bettie and her husband lived in Halifax Co, VA. I can't help but think that Sallie's Womack husband is somehow connected to the Womacks of Charlotte and Halifax Counties, VA and I wonder if his father or grandfather could be related as a brother or cousin to Miles Womack's father or grandfather. Anyone with any ideas one way or the other on this? THIRD - Beth, remember sometime back when I posted a maybe Womack connection with the SELF family. Well I ran across on Roots Web a Archibald Womack who married Sarah Hagar/Hager b1790 d1820. Their daughter Jane born after 1820 married a distant, distant cousin named Franklin Hagar/Hager. Jane's mother seems to be a granddaughter of Wilhelm Hagar/Hager who died 5 December 1773 Lincoln Co, NCar. Now Wilhelm Hagar/Hager's brother George had at least two sons. One of whom was George Hagar/Hager b1765 d1827 who was the grandfather of Franklin Hagar/Hager (Jane's husband). The other son of George (brother of Wilhelm who d1773) was David Hagar/Hager who married 15 January 1788 Elizabeth SELF. There is a chance that Elizabeth and David are my own personal line. Their descendants show up in Jessamine Co , KY. Can anyone tell me which Archibald Womack this is? Also can anyone tell me anything on Elizabeth Self's parents and siblings? Even if I am not a Womack descendant, I do enjoy this site and have learned lots from it. I wish everyone a JOYOUS SEASON and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Doretta

A bit of info on Miles....

This all looks good, but check it closely....

MILES G WOMACK (also gave a nickname as "Coon")
Birth: JAN 1853 Kentucky
Father: SAMUEL W WOMACK Mother: SUSAN (both parents born in VA)
Spouse: MARY BELLE COX
Marriage: 02 MAY 1877 , Morgan, Kentucky (marriage index for KY has Miles G "Coon")
Birth: 14 SEP 1852 Morg Co, , , Kentucky
Death: 30 JUN 1911

Name: Mary Belle COX
Father: Western W COX b: 28 SEP 1828 in ,Morgan Co.,KY
Mother: Elizabeth Ann NICKELL b: 12 JUL 1830 in ,Morgan Co.,KY

Only child I can find is:
CLAY W WOMACK
Birth: JAN 1878 Kentucky

From 1860 Census, Morgan Co KY

Samuel W Womac District 1, Morgan, KY 56 1803 Virginia Male (1850 census gives age as 36)
Susan Womac District 1, Morgan, KY 41 1818 Kentucky Female (1850 census gives age as 27)
James W Womac District 1, Morgan, KY 15 1844 Kentucky Male
Andrew J Womac District 1, Morgan, KY 13 1846 Kentucky Male
Newton P Womac District 1, Morgan, KY 10 1849 Kentucky Male
Miles T Womac District 1, Morgan, KY 8 1851 Kentucky Male
Anna E Womac District 1, Morgan, KY 4 1855 Kentucky Female
Willis Womac District 1, Morgan, KY 1 1858 Kentucky Male

This may pinpoint mothers maiden name:
Womack, Andrew J Womack , Samuel Ferries , Susan 15 October 1846
Born Morgan Co KY

1870 Census same county/state

Andrew Womack West Liberty, Morgan, KY 22 1847 Kentucky White Male
Ann E Womack West Liberty, Morgan, KY 15 1854 Kentucky White Female
Miles T Womack West Liberty, Morgan, KY 18 1851 Kentucky White Male
Susan Womack West Liberty, Morgan, KY 49 1820 Virginia White Female
Willis Womack West Liberty, Morgan, KY 12 1857 Kentucky White Male

This would indicate Samuel died somewhere in here - perhaps in the CW??

1880 Census

Clay WOMACK West Liberty, Morgan, KY 2 <1878> Kentucky Male Son
Isaac N. WOMACK West Liberty, Morgan, KY 28 <1852> Kentucky Male Son
Mary Belle WOMACK West Liberty, Morgan, KY 27 <1853> Kentucky Female Wife
Miles T. WOMACK West Liberty, Morgan, KY 27 <1853> Kentucky Male Self
Susan WOMACK West Liberty, Morgan, KY 60 <1820> Virginia Female Self
Willis G. WOMACK West Liberty, Morgan, KY 21 <1859> Kentucky Male Son

DO NOTE THAT THE FIRST ENTRY HAS MILES G, AND ALL SUBSEQUENT MILES T.

1910 Census (head of household only)

Clay W Womack WEST LIBERTY, MORGAN, KY 1877 Kentucky White Male
Miles T Womack WEST LIBERTY, MORGAN, KY 1852 Kentucky White Male
Newton P Womack WEST LIBERTY, MORGAN, KY 1849 Kentucky White Male

Couldnt find on 1900, 1920 nor 1930 censuses - but that is no surprise - I
dont think all counties in all states were indexed --

On this, the age is about right - but again that middle initial --

MERRY CHRISTMAS SAM --- THANKS for the data on Miles Womack of Morgan Co,KY. I could be wrong, but is his GREAT GRANDFATHER the William Womack who married Mary Allen? (Her ancestor who is maybe the Arthur Allen the owner of Bacon's Rebellion Castle). Anyway my husband's Miles Womack is of Halifax Co,VA and who married Frances Hawkins. I find the name Miles very interesting. (Not many of them.) Just a thought - but could Miles Womack of Halifax Co,VA be a GRANDSON of William Womack who married Mary Allen? I suspect there is a conection there somewhere but I don't know enough or have enough good Womack data to be sure. Just a FEELING. Any thoughts along this line of suspect? Got to go now. Will check in again later. THANKS AGAIN, SAM. MERRY CHRISTMAS. Doretta

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE --- This has been a CHRISTMAS to remember. First we had an ice storm and the pump at the warer station went out, sooooooooooo no water. Then we lost our electric and the house got pretty cold before we got our electric back. We sat down to eat our HOT Christmas Meal about 8:00pm. Even in my old age never a dull minute! -----SAM --- I have tried using the layout you mentioned, but I lost the posting. I guess it is in LA LA LAND. Anyway here is the data with no form. ---1.Abraham Womack 2.William Womack b.abt 1764 (Halifax Co,VA)(son of Abraham) Married (Rebecca?) _____ (Her name from her son Henry's death record, but it is not yet proven, I don't think, Henry and Miles are brothers.) 3.MILES WOMACK b.abt 1802VA d.abt 1846/47 Married 24 Jan 1826 Halifax Co,VA Frances W. Hawkins died before April 1866 4.MARY C WOMACK b.abt 1837/38 died young after 1870 but before 1889 (most likely died before 1880 Never married, but had two issue said by Littlejohn S McCargo. 5.JEFFERSON DAVIS WOMACK b.abt 1858/59 married 1st Molly/Mary Hudson married 2nd (as her 1st husband) Lucy Taylor Sneed (she married 2nd _____ Edmondson). 6.LOTTIE LEE WOMACK (mother Lucy) b.13 April 1898 d. Dec l989. (She is my husband's Grandmother thru her Compton marriege. I met Lottie and she gave me her parents full names.) -----BETH--- Thanks for the data. Some I already have, but lots looks new to me. I have yet to study it. I have been trying to find Lilly on the 1880 Census. I think she was 8 not 3 in 1870. I think Mary C. died before 1880. I know for sure before 1889. Lilly I think married in 1884. Littlejohn S McCargo (Jeff's & Lilly's father) bought some of his Dad's land and when Littlejohn S died in 1889, he willed one half of his land to Jeff and the other one half to Lilly Hudson, Jeff's sister. But also Mary C had received land in 1866 from the settlement of Miles Womack's Estate. That land a boundry with McCargo land (which McCargo it was that owned the land with the boundry, I don't know). Later when Jeff died, his 2nd wife Lucy T Sneed Womack married a 2nd time to an Edmondson and Jeff's land went under Edmondson control. Lilly's share of land most likly stayed in her family's control. I don't yet know for sure what Mary C did with her share of her father's land from his Estate. I wonder if she sold it or passed it along to one or both of her kids. ---MARK --- Somewhere in Halifax Co,VA there is a graveyard with a few Womacks buried there with several McCargs. This graveyard is near an old farmhouse and I believed it is an old family cemetery (maybe McCargo). Anyway this is all I know about this cemetery. I believe that Jefferson Davis Womack could be the Womack buried there. Please keep him in mind while you are working on Halifax Cemetery Records. I am looking for that graveyard's name. Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR. (I hope I don't lose this. I have typed this post about as many times as I am old) Doretta

Hi
I am looking to find any information on Sarah Womack, the sister of my Grandfather who emigrated with him from Liverpool, England to Toronto, Canada (my Grandfather returned to the UK) around the time of the first World War or information on any of her descendents. Also Arthur Womack who emigrated from the Liverpool England area after World War two to Canada (he is a cousin of mine). Thank you for any information.
Stephen Richard Womack, England.
