I am a little confused about something if any one can help me with this please do....

Alexander Womack Jr. Born 1759 in Prince Edward Co. VA married Milly Buckner I have received conflicting info about how many children he had. One source has him and Milly only having one child..William. Then he remarried to Sarah McDearmon and they had one child Elizabeth.
My other source says that Alexander Womack Jr. Had 8 children and only one wife.

James Alexander III
Jacob
Edmund
William----same as from source 1
Elizabeth---same as from source 1
Mary

Does anyone have censes records for 1900 or 1890 of Hamilton Co. TN? I am trying to find information about two sons of James L. Womack. Arla born 1890 and Clarendy 1892. I have info on the other two sons Earl and Earnest but Arla and Clarendy seem to have fallen of the map.

Andrea - there is no census for 1890 for Tn and most states - fragments of some is all -- however the 1900 is up and running -- In fact 1790 thru 1920 are available -- 1930 in progress at the moment -- not that many appreciate it - but they have been done -- I started this on a whatever, grew into more than I bargained for; but, being me didnt want to leave anything undone -- wont do something like this again tho; can assure you of that --

A little help need on deciphering an apparent date on a manuscript as follows.

ANNO CD D XC this is an early English document that is hard to translate because the f's look like J's and so on. The land mesurements is in Parches? I understand the date is in Roman Numerals and that seems to be the way the the early Virginia clerks or scribes number a document or court record. I would like to know the date it was written.

Jack = In Webester's New students Dictionary (mine pub. 1969) on page 585 you will find a table of numbers. On the cardinal numbers side you will find a column of roman numerals. CD=400 D=500 and XC=90 ANNO=year of (or anno Domini 'in the year of the Lord' According to this table I am reading ANNO CD D XC as year of 990. 'Parches' maybe is Parcels which = 'a tract or plot of land'. (By the way an 'f' sometimes = 'ss'). Doretta

Just to chime in on the Roman numerals -
You wouldn't write something as CD D XC, Take a close look your CD is likely and M in which case the year would be 1590.

Also, I've found this well known cheat sheet helpful when trying to decipher the writing - look at a reproduction of the Declaration of Independence and then a typed version. It helps with those long esses that look like f's and so on

Hi Sam,
A few errors in that tree, I will just do some for you as it is in the 90s here, and I am going for a swim.
Rev Laurence parents were Hugh Womocke & Joan randall, Rev Laurence was born 1576, two wives were Prudence, and Jane, you have him connected to arthur & Avice.
You also have Robert, Thomas, Salathiel, and Henry. With brothers John, William, Emmanuel or Sammuel, David, and Martha, These last five I have never heard of, and seeing there are NO dates with any of them I would dodt if they are correct, Especially the name David as it was not in commn use that early in England.
That will confuse you. Cold beer and a swim now.

Those last 5 you said you had never heard of were named in Henry's will -
David is quite unsure of -- the others no problem -- When you get a chance - go to www.womackonline.co.uk and browse thru the material there -- trying to read some of that old history, I could have gotten off track on Hugh and Arthur.

Hope the beer and swim were nice!!

I was at the library again last evening. I've decided to go county by county in VA and see what I can dredge up on the Womacks.

Did anyone ever get to an answer on Abraham Womack and the Blanton relationship?
Abraham and Abraham Jr. are prevelent in a lot of the records both buying and selling land and court records. Mostly for debts but also the adultry case. As are Richard and Matthew and Josiah Womack

Can you get a more detailed transcript of these trials - all I see on here or the Valentine papers are abstracts?

Also, a new name (to me) poppped up Keziah (Wilkinson) Womack daughter of John Wilkinson, Sr. - who did she marry?

Not sure what Roger sent you - but if it is Marion Womack and Mary Mote - then
the following is indicative of a second marriage --

1880 Census Burnt Hickory, Paulding, Georgia
Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace
Marion WOMACK Self M Male W 40 GA Farmer GA GA
Mary WOMACK Wife M Female W 24 GA Keeping House GA GA
William WOMACK Son S Male W 17 GA Works On Farm GA GA
Sarah WOMACK Dau S Female W 14 GA Works On Farm GA GA

Wow! I am completely amazed at the work you people have done. Warning: I am new to this.
2 questions- I have a bunch of hearsay info and looking for verification of this line (curious if anyone has "done" this line):
1.WOMACK, Alexander
+ PRUITT, Martha
2.WOMACK, David b.1765
+ HAWKINS, Elizabeth
3.WOMACK, Elisha b.1799
+CHAPMAN, Polly
4.WOMACK, William James b.North Carolina
+WARD, Elizabeth Pricilla b.Tennessee
5.WOMACK, Margaret b. 28 Jul 1858, Nashville, TN d.1925
+ MASON, Asa Stevenson m. 13 Nov 1889, Shawneetown, IL
(Asa was my GGF)
Also, in regard to Sam's earlier post - did I understand correctly that the noted William b. 1607 (father to Richard, etc.) is a myth?

Hi Sam,
We have a Jennetta Womack but she was born Norfolk 1849, so that puts her out. As to the Robert. Can not help you there. The earliest Robert that we have married 1660 to Margaret Fisher. He died 1674. This also was Norfolk. Dave's Womacks did not go to Yorkshire until late 1880's.

Roger and Jack, - thanks for the response to the earlier questions.
My purpose in going through VA county by county is to try to find the maiden name of Carter Womack's wife and any other little gems that may pop up.

I'm making some conjecture here and would appreciate any correction-
I've been trying to locate a GG Uncle and think I have found him and his family but wanted to float out the information in case some one else has laid claim on him from another line.

Womack, William H. head, born 3/1865, age 35, Married 4 yrs., in Tn, NC, MS
Maggie, wife, 10/1875, 24, 4,3,2,AR, AR, AR
Alan J.(?), 8/1889, 10, AR, AR, AR
Oscar L. , 10/1896, 3, AR, AR, AR
Flora (?), 6/1899, 1, AR, Ar,Ar

In the 1910 census for Logan Co. Ark. Ed. 189 Sheet 36B and Household 12/12 is

Womack, Maggie S, head, 35, Wd, born in AR, US, TN
Osco W. , son, 13,S, AR, TN, AR
Charles P., dau(sic), 11, AR, TN, AR
Lewis A, son, 9, AR, TN, AR
Mary E., dau, 8 , AR, TN, AR
Lillian E, dau, 2, AR, TN, AR

I think this is the brother of James W, and John Everett Womack - William H. aka Henry would have been last enumerated in the HH of Jordan Womack in Tx in 1880. He married Maggie Morison 10/27/1895 in Logan Co.

Any ideas?

Royce,

I also found this for you:

W. H. WAMACK Age: 21 years Marriage
Wife: Eldora CALAHAN Age: 17 years
Marriage Date: 9 Jan 1887 Recorded in: Logan, Arkansas Source: FHL Number 1027136 Dates: 1877-1885

Eldora Callahan was the dau. of Allen and Mary A. Morrison Callahan. They are buried in the Callahan Cemetery in Logan Co., near Magazine.

Eldora would have been William Henry's first wife, the mother of son, Alan J., age 10 (b. 1889) on the 1900 census with W. H. Womack. She died, and "Henry" married Maggie Morrison in 1895. Maggie was Margaret Morrison, daughter of William and Lavina L. Morrison. I'll bet you a dollar to a donut that William Morrison and Mary A. Morrison Callahan were brother and sister.

Alan Womack's name was actually Allen Jordan. I'm sure W. H. is your Henry, son of Jordan, because on the 1910 Boone Twp., Logan Co., AR census, page 36A, Jordan A. WAMACK, age 21 (b. 1889 AR TN AR) is enumerated in the household of Robert A. Callahan (brother of Eldora Callahan Womack), working as Callahan's hired man.

Beth,
You are too fabulous! -
Jordan Henry and Mary E. Crenshaw had four daughters
One Susan married John Ashley in Lamar Co. Tx and she died in 1906
One Katie E was born about 1869 and I last see her on the 1880 census in Larmar. One Mattie married William Pool in Logan Co and died about 1944.
And another who I have only seen listed as M.D. (possibly Mary) who I last see listed in TN in 1870
If they married young then it is likely MD married in TN prior to the move to TX and Katie married in TX prior to the move to AR.
While you're on a roll - I thought I'd see if you knew this one too.
Thanks a lot for the help,
Royce

Here is something I received from my step-sister. I already have him in my database, but I didn't have the pension thing. Here it is in case someone might find it useful:

MASSENELLO WOMACK
SPENCER COUNTY
SERGEANT
VIRGINIA STATE TROOPS
$120.00 ANNUAL ALLOWANCE
$360.00 AMOUNT RECEIVED
FEBRUARY 21, 1833 PENSION STARTED
AGE 83

I guess that is all I have to report at this time. Maybe more later. An elusive Womack emerges occasionally.

I'm learning to be a little more specific. A previous post of mine listed a line of descent from Alexander WOMACK and wife Martha (possibly PRUITT). My records show they had a son David b. 1765 (and brother Alexander II). Does any one know where he was born or any further information about his marriage to Elizabeth HAWKINS?

FYI
Here's a head's up that the new version of GRISOFT's AVG Free Edition (v 7.0 Build 289) is out and available for download.

At Major Geeks http://www.majorgeeks.com/download886.html

AT GRISOFT's website http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/Get+AVG+FREE/lng/us/tpl/v5

Note:
On December 31, 2004, support for AVG 6.0 will be discontinued. All virus database updates, program updates, as well as technical support for the product will no longer be available after this date! In order to continue to be protected by AVG Anti-Virus, you must be using AVG 7.0 (Free Version )

In My opinion this is still the best of the best. It's detection rate is the best and the updates are all current and while they are automatic I still do a manual U/D daily.
If you are not using AVG and you know of anyone wanting a first class anti-virus program pass this on to them. Help protect our computers by helping others.
Note: The free edition is all you will ever need.

Several have asked if the old version of AVD must be deleted before installing the new AVG 7.0. The answer is no, it is not necessary the new version will overwrite the old. Git-er-done, it may save your precious ged files.

Thanks Sam, As you can see I had David's wife Elizabeth with the last name HAWKINS (which may account for their fourth son being named Hawkins) but again, that info is unverified - Also, I see that you have Elisha's wife as Mary 17. I have it as Polly CHAPMAN, again from the same unverified source as the last name HAWKINS and previously noted PRUITT. Where did you get Mary from?
Do you have Elisha's descendents as well or is only Michael's known?
Thanks again

Hello-
My g-grandmother was Oda Maude Womac
b. July 14, 1882 in Riceville, McMinn Co, TN
d. January 31, 1955 in Phoenix, AZ

Her father was Woody Alexander Womac
b. February 6, 1851 in Polk Co, TN
d. February 22, 1937 Mc Minn Co, TN

Her mother was Mahala Emaline Pugh
b. May 22, 1852 in TN
d. February 3, 1944 in Calhoun, McMinn Co. TN

Are there any relatives out there? I have photos of Oda Maude Womac and her mother Mahala that I would happy to email anyone who is interested.

I am also trying to figure out who Woody Alexander Womac's parents were. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks -

Elin, I would look in Greenup County, KY - The Pugh and Womack family seems to have intermarried there a lot. No definites but it's a good starting place. I was just looking there for something else tonight and ran across the Pugh name.

First - I meant Erin not Elin in the message below.

Second -- I came across this obituary in Fort Smith, Ark. back in the summer and it's been vexing me till tonight. I think this may help a few folks.
Here's the obituary posted somedays after the date of death May 9, 1930:

Funeral service for Alln H. Womack, 50 Years Old, who died at a Muskogee, OPkla, hospital early Friday morning, was conducted at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Putman Funeral home, with Rev. C.P. Kariker, pator of the United Lutheran church, officiating.
The body of Mr. Womack arrived in Fort Smith at 10 o'clock Friday night from Muskogee and was removed to the Putman Funeral Home. the body was accompanied by Mr. Womack's wife, Mrs. Ollie Womack and his son, Earl Womack.
The death of Mr. Womack was the result of an infected fott. He droppeda heavy iron on his foot in January, while working at the Midland Valley railway office.

After some searching, I found Allen's father to be Samual T. Womack (I'm guessing the T stands for Tingal) - His mother is Mary E. B. Long (she gets a lot of middle initials along the way). [And she's related on my granmother's side]
Sam dies or runs off sometime around 1881 and she marries a Monroe and has one child. She then marries Henry Anderson and Allen and his siblings are enumerated as Andersons in the 1900 census of Sebastian Co.
Allen and his wife and children are enumerated in the 1910 cecus (Same place) next door to his mother "Mary Anderson" .They are still there in 1920.
In 1930 they are in Oklahoma City just one month prior to his death.

Allen's father (Sam) is the son of Allen L. [Lilious] Womack and Lucy J. Osenton of Greenup County, KY. and his great grandparents are James Tignal Womack and Nancy Meadow Rudder.

Anyone --agree, disagree, ?

There are a few Womack's buried in this cemetery also -- I intend to survey it soon to see just how many for sure...

Sam- thanks for the info on Murray Bemis. Fortunately I have quite a lot of information for that side of the family, and am just now starting the Womack side.

I have the original purchase paper work for plots at Greenwood Memorial Park - Murray and Oda Maude (Womac) Bemis purchased two plots - Graves 2&3, Lot 3, Block 13, Section 38. Hope this helps when you start researching there.
