Sam, I have Edmund born abt 1774, ten years later.
SURNAME WOMACK
Christian-Mitchell marriage(s):
Mrs. Lucinda Christian Mitchell of Jones County, Georgia.
Lucinda's mother's maiden name, according to family records, was Nancy Womack.
Mrs. Nancy Womack Christian is listed in the 1850 census for Jones County,
Georgia, with her husband, Henry Christian, and her children.
WAR HISTORY OF THE CHILDREN
Mitchell-Christian Marriages:
Lucinda Christian Mitchell married Warren Anderson Mitchell, C.S.A (great
grandson of Henry Mitchell, Revolutionary Soldier, of Jones County) on March 26,
1861, in Jones County, Georgia. Both Lucinda and Warren are in the 1850 census
for Jones County, Georgia.
According to Confederate Widow's Pension Claim, No. 3655, dated August 24, 1891,
Warren Anderson Mitchell was serving, on duty, in the recruiting office, at Camp
Watts (Camp of Instruction Number One), near Notasulga, Alabama, when he
contracted pneumonia and died on November 20, 1862. Warren Anderson Mitchell was
brought back to his old home, in Clinton, Jones County, Georgia, and buried
there.
Do any Womacks have any information about the regimental history and company
information for Warren Anderson Mitchell? Lucinda was surviving the Civil War.
First Sgt. Hardy Christian, C.S.A., is included in the 1850 census for Jones
County, Georgia. First Sgt. Hardy Christian, C.S.A, was serving and was
surrendered at Appomattox.
Hardy Christian married Martha Mitchell, in Jones County, Georgia. Martha
Mitchell Christian is included in the 1850 Jones County census under the
household of her father, Uriah Mitchell. Cousin Mitchells, do you need any
information?
New Guinea Station, Virginia
Private William H. Christian, who was included in the 1850 census of Jones
County, Georgia, was serving and died at New Guinea Station, Virginia (now,
according to the Virginia Historical Society, called simply Guinea, Virginia).
Jones County Records
The Civil War records for First Sgt. Hardy Christian and for Private William H.
Christian are for Company F, Gray Volunteers (Jones County, Georgia), 45th
Georgia Volunteer Infantry. These records were discovered in May 1956 in Macon,
Georgia, in a confederate monument, upon removal. They are available under Jones
County history.
Civil war records are appreciated. Lookee, here, Lucinda, Clinton is having its
Civil War reenactment, this May, within a few days. I won't be peeking at the
travel book, "Hidden Georgia". Briefly, Clinton saw 15,000 Federal
troops and one-third of the town burned. Womacks, please help me find Warren's
records. Where are the records, Womacks?
Where are the Womacks from?
Thanking you, Womacks,
Terri Anne Hastings

If you have any information on these Womacks, would you
I am a descendant of Martha Womack dau Abraham (1644-1733). My records
indicated that Martha may have been the dau of Abraham and Sarah Summercales
(there is a question mark after Sarah Summercales name and no mention of Sarah
Worsham.) This info was from Maxine Hulse Tinkham's "Womack Genealogy"
originally written in 1979, updated in 1986.
Who knows whether Martha was Sarah Worsham's dau?
Thank you.

Looking for ancestors of Josiah Womack (b.ca 1855 TX, d. 6/22/1918 AL) who
married Sarah Addie Bryant (b. 1/25/1868 AL, d. 6/1/1913 AL). Josiah appears to
be the son of a John R. or B. Womack (b.ca 1832 TN, d. 1865 AL) and his wife
Sarah (b.ca 1827 TN, d. 1870 AL), as they appear in the 1860 Jackson Co. census.
They are all buried in the Bryant Cemetery in Jackson Co.
I am trying to clarify some Womack ancestors on my mother's side. I will list
what I know, if anyone out there can help please do!
My grandfather: Robert Peoples Womack
Ggrandfather: William Oliver Womack
GGgrandfather: William Peoples Womack
GGGgrandfather: Josiah Womack b. 1771 married to Mary Massey
GGGGgrandfather: Abraham Womack b. 1726 spouse unknown maybe Elizabeth
Now my question is this, Abraham Womack b. 1726, his father is listed as being
William Womack b. around 1647 (according to what I have found). That means
William had Abraham when he was in his 70's. So I think there is a generation
gap there or the date is wrong. Does anyone have any solid evidence of who
Abraham Womack's father is? FRom my sources William was, but those dates cannot
be accurate. I was told by my family we are descended from John Womack b. 1653
(the wife beater) but the research I am turning up says not him but maybe one of
his Uncles. So I am very confused. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks :o)

5. William Peoples WOMACK was born 31 Jul 1812 in Caswell Co, NC, and died 5 Oct
1861 in Tunica Co, MS. <- I am descended through him.
6. Abraham WOMACK was born 31 Oct 1814, and died 1883 in Rockingham Co, NC.
7. Mary Ann WOMACK was born 26 Feb 1817 in Caswell Co, NC, and died 28 Mar 1859.
8. Lelius (Lewis) P WOMACK was born 20 Feb 1820, and died 1858.
9. Joseph B WOMACK was born 5 Apr 1823, and died 17 Oct 1858.
Our family records start from Josiah's line. We are not really clear on his
ancestors. We have some names and dates but they do not add up. If you are a
descendant of one of Josiah's children and have this info please share :o) The
Womack line is from my Mom's side and alot of my current relatives live in Erath
Co. Texas/Stephenville area. Thanks for your help.

I seem to be flooding this message board ;)
Please excuse my rudeness. I just started researching my mother's line and am
very excited about what I am finding, and also frustrated at what I cannot find.
I never knew resarching your family tree could be so addicting! My husband and I
are currently fighting over computer time *snicker*!
I know there seems to be a mystery as to who the parents were of a Thomas Womack
born 1743 who married Louvisa Rice? In researching my tree, I am finding mixed
up dates and people. This is what I have found, if anyone knows differently
please correct it.
William Womack b. 1610 in England married Mary Jane Allen
One of their sons was Abraham Womack who married Sarah Summerscales
One of their sons was a Thomas Womack who married Mary Farley
One of their sons was an Abraham Womack born about 1670s
He has two lines? One through a Nancy Blaton who he did not marry. Their son was
a Thomas Womack born 1743 who married a Louvisa Rice. They had several children.
He (Abraham Womack born abt 1670s) did marry a Jane ? in 1691 in Henrico Co.,
VA. Their son Abraham Womack was born 1726. He married Elizabeth Stubblefield
and had 10 children. One of their children Josiah Womack is who I am descended
from. This info I collected from various sources on the internet plus records in
a book that my family has on the Womacks. My questions is this, if there is so
much controversy surrounding the parents of Thomas who married Louvisa, how can
I be sure that Abraham Womack fathered the Abraham Womack b. 1726. From what I
have found Thomas born in 1743 and Abraham born in 1726 are half brothers.
Please clarify! If this info is wrong I need to know. My family said we were
descended from John Womack b. 1653 but from the digging around I have done that
is not the case. We are descended from Abraham Womack born about 1670s. Thanks
for any help, it is much appreciated.

Lara
Thanks so much Sam for that info. I had posted again before I saw your post.
Are you sure on those dates? I ask because you have Abraham Sr. Womack born 1708
and having a son Abraham Womack 1725. That means he was married and a father at
17 yrs of age. Which can happen, but he seemed young.
Now, so it seems the line is this and correct me if I am wrong!
William Womack born 1610 England married Mary Jane Allen,
their son Abraham Womack born 1644 in Henrico Co., VA married to a Sarah
Summerscales.
They had a son named Thomas Womack born about 1672 in Henrico Co., who married a
Mary Farley.
Their son Abraham Sr. Womack born about 1708 in Henrico Co., who married an
Elizabeth who was born about 1710.
They had a son named Abraham Womack born about 1725 who married an Elizabeth
Stubblefield.
Their son was Josiah Womack born 1771 who married Mary Polly Massey.
From Josiah my family has all his descendants compiled in a Womack Book.
Now a ?, are you sure on the two Abrahams who had wives both named Elizabeth?
Could it be only one Abraham and Elizabeth? I wonder about that since the senior
Abraham would have had Jr. Abraham at the age of 17, and Elizabeth the mother
would have only been 16 yrs of age. Or could it have been two diffreent Abrahams
with wifes Elizabeth who are not related?? Also this lineage you provided clears
up the other post that I made. I had found some info that the Abraham I am
descended through had had an affair with a Nancy Blanton resulting in Thomas
Womack who married Louvisa. SO I am still unclear about this. ALso my family had
insisted we were descended through a John Womack born 1653, through his son
William born abt 1700 who had a son Abraham born abt 1725. But from your info
this Abraham was from Abraham Sr who was from a Thomas Womack. I think the
confusion can be cleared up now in my family. Apparently we are descended from
John Womack's brother Abraham Womack born 1644.
This is soooooo much fun! hehehe.
Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone would like
information about the Josiah Womack line born 1771 let me know. We have a book
in our family that is a compilation of letters, poems, wills and grievances
written by our Womack ancestors. It has alot of interesting stories in it. And
if anyone has any additional info to clear up anything please let me know. This
has been a mystery in my family for years as to who the father was of Abraham
Womack born 1726. Thanks :o)

Hi Jackie! Nice to hear from you. I'm willing to bet that Roger and Sam were
betting on how long it would take before I hit the reply button! LOL!
Ok, who you have there is John Womack - middle initial sometimes given as B. -
who was the son of John and Sarah Avery Lewis Womack. John was born ca. 1780 and
died before 1840. He was the son of Abraham Womack and his first wife, Martha
Mitchell. Sarah Avery Lewis was b. 10-Apr-1786 and married in Warren Co., GA
12-Aug-1805.
Now, the reason Roger and Sam were snickering away in the background about me
replying, is that your John was the brother of my ancestor Mansel Womack, and
Sarah Avery Lewis was the sister of Mansel's second wife Mary Mariah Lewis.
Sarah and Mary Mariah were 2 of 10 children of Jacob and Sarah Avery Noland
Lewis - that family, if I am remembering correctly, traces back to colonial
Maryland, quickly looking it up, it says in my notes that Jacob and Sarah were
married in Frederick Co., MD in 1769. If you have noted the records of Butler
Co., AL, you'll find their brother Pearce Lewis and his family, among others,
hanging around with the Womacks. I'd actually have to go to my big pile of notes
to go farther back on the Lewis family - unless cousin Miles happens to see this
and pop in with his notes!
Ok, back to the Womacks - Abraham Womack apparently married twice, first to
Martha MITCHELL in Granville Co., NC in 1763 and then probably in GA to another
Martha around 1783 or so. Martha Mitchell is said to have been born 4-Mar-1744
and died 1-Dec-1782 (got the date from a family bible abstract, haven't seen it,
can't swear to it) and Martha ?'s first kid was probably born about 1785.
Other than the fact that there was a large Mitchell family in and around
Granville Co, NC, Martha's parentage is unknown. Abraham, was born 22-Apr-1742
and died around 1797 when he left a will in Hancock Co., GA.
From Abraham on back in the Womacks, you go Richard III, Richard JR, Richard Sr,
William the immigrant.

This is to Sam who had posted the lineage to me in a previous message. I was
able to track down the book I need at my mother's house. I looked up some names
in the book that a relative wrote about "William Oliver Womack and Wirt
ADams Love, their ancestors and descendants." She says that Abraham Womack
was born in 1726, his father was William Womack born 1700 in Henrico Co.,
Virgina. And William's father was Abraham Womack born around 1668 son of John
the wifebeater Womack born around 1653. She said this was probable. I did look
through some trees on ancestry.com and found this:
Name: William Womack
Sex: M
Birth: ABT. 1700 in Henrico County, Virginia
Father: Abraham Womack , Sr. b: ABT. 1668 in Henrico County, Virginia
Mother: Mary
Marriage 1 Spouse Unknown
Children
Abraham Womack b: 1726 in Virginia
When I click on the Abraham WOmack Sr it gave me John Womack as his father and
Mary Akins as his mother.
So according to these two different sources, he came through John Womack's son
Abraham and not Thomas Womack born 1672. So I am really confused! There were
quite alot of Abrahams and Williams in the Womack line and it is hard to sort
through this lineage. Do you know of this line? Does anyone have any
documentation about William Womack born about 1700 in Henrico Co. Virginia,
whose father was Abraham Womack Sr.? If anyone does I would appreciate it.
Thanks.
Lara M.
I will be moving later this year and I have been doing some early packing. I found two old pictures from 20 years or more ago, of two headstones in Old Malden Cemetery, Malden, Dunklin County, Missouri. I don't know these two Womacks.
R. G. Womack born Sept 12, 1861
died Aug 6, 1932
Next Lot
Richard T. Womack born Oct. 7, 1882
died Jan. 8, 1936
I hope some one can identify them and perhaps fill in a blank. My mother Dorothy Beatrice Womack Moore is buried in that cemetery.
Lara, Perry, and everybody. Well I am really working on the article about the earliest Womacks. I intend to start with a survey of exactly what we do know (and thus what we don't know) about the first certain Henrico Womacks - the five brothers Richard, Abraham, John, Thomas and William. Part of that follows. If anyone can contradict or correct any of what I am about to say with verifiable evidence please do so! First there is no hard evidence that a William existed as their father; there is some circumstantial evidence about which Ann has written on this site (the "orphans of William" legal matter). But there certainly are: no dates; and, no hard evidence as to whom his wife might have been. If he existed, there is circumstantial evidence that she may have been a Mary and less good circumstantial evidence that she may have been an Allen. There is no evidence whatsoever about who Abraham's wife might have been.
Lara,
As I see it, and someone correct me if I am wrong, there is no way that Abraham Womack born about 1668 can be a son of John born about 1653. John's will states that Abraham is the youngest son of several who are mentioned in the will. I would estimate that John's son Abraham probably wasn't born much before the 1680's, if not later, depending on whether or not he also had some older sisters.
Bob Reese
You are right Bob, I finally figured that one out! I had some help, Roger from womacknet.net had sent me alot of info that helped to clear up my line. But then there was only a 17 yr difference between Abraham Sr and Abraham Jr. So who knows! I don't think anyone can ever be 100% sure on their Womack line (unless you are a Womack in England). It is a Womack mystery.
Lara M.
In response to David: AS long as there isn't any paper proof then we will never know. It is all supposition. I am very new to this and I want to know why is there no evidence for William and his sons? No wills, bible entries anything?
Lara M.
Yes Yes my isp changed my email addy --
on the question about why no documentation on Ole Will, et al:
a. either he did not exist
b. there were no records kept
c. records have been lost or destroyed with time
d. someone is hoarding in a trunk or closet.
e. he was a figment of someones imagination like Henry of Maryland/
Accomack VA
f. all of the above -
Take your pick any could apply!!!
Also, David, were you ever able to get an extract of that will from 1628 or 1629, from the UK on that Henry Womack?? I sent E mail to the records keeper and got no response --
Sam, no I didn't get a copy. Like you I wrote and got no reply. Maybe I'll call! David.
Dear Womacks,
I have come across a John Womack in Pulaski Co. Ga. in land deals with
the Sherrard family. In the early 1800's.My Warmacks have intermarried with
them at least twice. I would like to have some info on him and family as I
belive he is the father of my John and william Warmack. Anything would be
helpful or I could be off base? Wondering. M.W.
My mother, Jean Womack Beard, daughter of John William Womack and Ollie McFarland of Corpus Christi, Texas, born 10/10/20 - died on May 8, 2002. The only daughter left of John William and Ollie is Frances Womack Gorham.
My mother's children are:
Thomas William Crowley, b: 3-28-43
George Patrick Growley, b: 7-5-45
Peggy Jean Crowley Peterson, b: 7/28/50
Susan Mary Crowley Horn, b: 12/1/54
Joann Elizabeth Crowley Horton, b: 12/21/56
Dear Roger, On US Gen Web Project Ga. Pulaski Co. in Pulaski Co. Administrators and Guardians Bonds Dec. 1810- Mar. 1825 you will find the
following: Jan. 10 1817 William J. Murrell,Gdn. of Samuel Roberts. John Womack
and John Hodges Sec. for $1,200. Sept. 1 John Sherrod(Sherrard) ,adm. of Elizabeth Roberts.John Womack security for $100. So my question is if this
John Womack is my John Warmack Sr.,dad of John Jr. and William warmack? As
William Sherrard Mar. Minerva A. Warmack and my William son William Mar. Joel
Sherrard Dau. Emma. And they all moved to Yazoo Co. ms. I wonder if John Sr.
was Mar. to a Sherrard at that time also? I also found were Josiah Warmack

I have recently read the archived posting by Sam Jordan (Dec 2, 1999 at 10:28 PST). In this message Sam listed the family of Alfred Jackson Womack and his wife Jane Denkins. Children included Joseph Emerson Womack who married Annie Eliza Womack. Grand children included Robert Kendrick Womack who is Sam's granfather (according to another posting of Sam's).
Annie Eliza Womack is a half sister of my father, Clifton Methvin Lokey (my father is only about 9 years older that Annie's son Robert). Because of the age difference and living some distance apart, I never got to know this part of my family and I would dearly love to establish contact with some of the descendants of Annie and Joe. Sam's e-mail address no longer works and I could not find another posting in the archives. If any of you can give me a lead to Sam or other members of this family I would be grateful.
I will be happy to provide information on Annie Lokey's family to any who are interested. Thanks and I hope to hear from any of you all.

I am just beginning my search of the Womack family history. So, I probably have very little to offer. My mothers name was Sarah Rhunette Womack. She had three brothers James, Otis, and William, and one sister, Martha. To the best of my knowledge they were all born in or around Macon GA between 1915 and 1925. They all passed away before I was old enough to have learned any of the family history or origins. Any pointers on where to start will be appreciated.
yeah using a freebie e mail addy till I can get some decent service again --
Ann,
There was a posted copy of Cherry Grove on line a few years back - I posted it as I borrowed the book from Walter Womack and copied it - I dont know if Roger or Mark downloaded a copy of it or not -- It was on geocities, I think, and I gave up on that bunch and deleted (after downloading to disk) the stuff I had there --
I think I made a copy, unfortunately I am in the process of moving and can't find anything, I'll let you know when I find it.
Looking for Womack family --George (1653), Henry (1681) and Rachel (1717) who married William Tabor. Can anyone help?
Yeah, Rog, I just moved and I know how that is - I Cherry Grove on a diskette; but your guess is as good as mine as to where it is at the moment!!
I just found Egbert Hudson Womack's grave in Farmville, VA. He IS PART OF MY FAMILY. Now I need to find his book "Cherry Grove." Ray B. not responding. HELP!

Ann, no one seems to have a copy of Cherry Grove on disk handy at the moment. You can go to your nearest LDS family history center and order it on microfilm. Or depending on where you live you may be able to get if on interlibrary loan from another library. Ann
OK, I found my copy of Cherry Grove, the link above and below will get you there. I still need to do some editing on it.

Hey folks. There are some other hard to get references out there. (Besides Egbert). How about if we list some and those having can post. Can that work Webmaster? How? David.

OOOOOOOOOOKKKKK!
Looks like me server gets booted and I keep MSN after all! Good thing I didnt terminate them!! Nor make too many changes to my E mail thangy's on the web pages (hmm gotta check themout tho!)..
David what other references are you referring to? Womack Genealogy from McMinnville is on line (thanks to Rog, Mark and I), Cherry Grove is as you see thanks to the three of us again. I think all three of us have Descendants of Thomas and Louvisa somewhere...Theres another that Markie put on her web page and I think Rog has a link somewhere to it ot at least its on her web page accessible thru WGN links...
There are some articles I have found and posted on my web page, I hope the links still work anyway...
And, you are right, there is a lot of stuff out there that needs be cross referenced for all to see and use...
Sam. Have been having computer problems. Will look up some of the things I can never find. David.

Hello to all you Womacks out there. I am a descendant of Newton C. "William" Womack. His daughter, Rebecca, is my greatgrandmother. I just recently found the Womack Cemetery where she is buried; however, there is only one headstone in the cemetery. The cemetery is located west of Morrison's Bluff, Arkansas. I am trying to locate any descendants of her three children by her first marriage to William Rowlett. Their names are Bettie, Albert and Joseph Rowlett. I found this family in the 1870 census of Johnson County, Arkansas. She married Samuel Lafayette McCutcheon, my greatgrandfather, in January 1880. She died after 1888. I am so thrilled to have found the cemetery, but would love to know which is her gravesite. I think her mother, Sarah Watson Womack, is also buried there. It is an abandoned cemetery, but I want to start taking care of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for this being so long a message.
I trying to trace my Dad's Womack roots. The oldest person I have is a JOSEPH MARVIN WOMACK. He was born
abt. 1883. He married Ella Warren Bunch. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
After reading my previous message, it sounds like I was asking for help with the cemetery. I didn't mean for it to sound that way. I'm needing help in locating Bettie, Albert and Joseph Rowlett descendants. Albert married Jesse Hamm in April 1888 in Logan County, AR. Joseph married Cora McDonald in October 1888 in Logan County, AR. They were married by William Newton Womack MG. W.N. Womack was my ggrandmother's brother.
Trying hard to find James Lee Womack, son of Theodore and stepson of Alma. Last I heard of him, he was living in the Miami, FL area in 1965, although he originally hailed from somewhere near Chattanooga, TN. I think he has a step sister named Star.
Any help?
