Ed,
Will answer your E mail and the query below--if you found them on an
1880 census, the census would have told you where they were
born..then working back, perhaps tying in with the 1870/60 and so
forth..the 1900 mebbe also
Hi Folks! Think I may have finally found my Womack connection! Got
a lookup from someone from Hempstead County, AR and they located the
marriage license for my John Franklin and Rhoda (Askew) Womack. They
were married May 2, 1880. They are also listed in the 1880 census for
Hempstead County,AR with "Franklin"'s parents, Steven and Tentie
Womack. They are listed as being from Alabama.
So now, Mark, Roger and Sam....help me out here!!! What do you have
on this Womack line????? Please tell me you have a bunch!!! *grin* I
have chased these 2 from Texas to Missouri to Arkansas and back
again! So please tell me you can nail them down for me!!!
Thanks so much fellas and keep up the great work!
Jeanie Seabolt Hill
Jeanie,
This Steven I have been chasing around, but lack proof of who he was.
The 1880 census list Steven w/sp Tenti. (I believe Tenti is Tempy
Chandler.)
Steven 66 TN County Hempstead.
Tenti W 46 AL
Rhoda DL 16 AR
Thomas N 24 TN
Alex N 21 TN
William N 20 TN
I do believe this Steven to be the son of William Womack 2nd sp
Francis, This William was also married 1st to Margaret Ellis. We just
need to find some proof.
Looking for any connection to Sarah Elizabeth Womack. She was born
Oct 22, 1849 in North Carolina and died in winterville, clarke
County, GA JAn 10, 1913. She married Martin A. Smith who was a CSA
soldier from Stanly County, NC. He was born in 1849 in NC and died in
Winterville, Clarke County, GA Feb 1917. He applied for a pension for
his war service in Oglethorpe County, GA. The couple had at least
five children who were born in Rome, Floyd County, Ga before moving
to Athens,GA. The children were Lonnie "Jack", Horace, Teilyar, Mary
Elizabeth, and William. I think Martin's parents are Nelson and
Emaline Smith, though I have no proof yet. No information on Sarah
Elizabeth's parents. Thanks
Sheree
Jeanie,
Here's a little more info that may shed some light on your line.
Steven 66 TN County Hempstead.
Tenti W 46 AL (I believe this is Tempy Chandler)
Rhoda DL 16 AR
Thomas N 24 TN
Alex N 21 TN
William N 20 TN
Bailey, Martha Bo 30 TN
Levi Bo 9 TN
Sarah Bo 9 TN
I do believe this Steven to be the son of William Womack sp Francis.
Son of Alexander sp Milly, but lack proof. On the 1900 census for
Howard County list:
Timpy Jó1835 65 GA
Enum with Newt Baily,
Note the Baileys boarding with Steven in the 1889 Census, itís
just she is listed as being born in GA., which could be a
mistake.
The Alex which was his nephew listed on the 1880 census, I believe is
Thomas Alexander, Thomas A, on the 1900 census in Hempstead Co., sp
Loo, I believe is the son of William Wiley Green Womack which was the
brother of Steven.

Am posting this here so all can see we cannot necessarily trust
the soundex cards..Jeanie told me that on my AR census stuff I missed
Rhoda's husband who was listed as Franklin, and Ruth Askew whom is
believed Rhoda's mother. That perturbed me so I am just back from the
FHC looking at the actual census..and yes Franklin Age 18 born AR was
there...as was Ruth Askew, maiden name unknown but born AR also..but,
see below for a conflict...so will be changing that particular
entry.
However Jeanie, I did some rummaging around..believe Ruths husband to
be Hezekiah Askew, 1860 census Hempstead co, page 743, visit/fam
290/390.
Hexekiah was 60, b. NC; wife Ruth age 39 b. AL..sons John and David,
born in TN ages 23 and 16 respectively..dau Penelope age 3 son
Hezekiah age 1. I believe that Ruth is his second wife,,,1850 shows a
Hezekiah age 53 born NC, wife Penelope age 49 born NC one son John
age 14 which could be the one above, and three others between 6 and
14...I suggest you contact your lookup person in
Hempstead and have her/him do a look up for around 1856/7 ish for a
marriage of Hezekiah to a Ruth someone..Hezekian is not found on the
AR 1870 anywhere..nor is Ruth..you need an 1870 to show a 4-5 year
old Rhoda with a mom named Ruth..
See shugah, hangin in theah works!!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
I so much appreciate all the help. And I also appreciate the advice
Sam, on where to go from here. I will contact my Hempstead County
Lookup person and see if she can find a record of Ruth Askew in 1870
census. Thats a great idea!
This is the first lead that seems to pan out for me. In the past
everytime I found a "John" Womack that I thought was him when I dug
deeper it turned out to not be them. This really seems to be the
right ones!
Thanks again guys!
Jeanie

I checked the 1870 AR census and zilch; I meant have them look for a
marriage between Hezekiah and Ruth abt mid1850-about 1857.I am
correcting that data on line to day...thanks to you!!
Hello fellow Womacks! I am currently writing a short story and am
in need of an online picture of our Coat of Arms. I have tried
several different heraldry pages and none seem to have the Womack
crest included. Can anyone point me in the right direction???
I live in Kansas City, MO and my father is James Calvin Womack, his
father was Lattie Oliver Womack (aka Bob) and my branch of the family
is pretty much located in southern Missouri and Arkansas.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance !! Thank You!

C. Dwight, Thank you for the dates, I don't have a clue who Jemima is either, I've been looking for her. Most of the others are John B.'s children and grand children but if he was married 12 feb 1874, and Jemima born 1872, I would guess she's not his. Unless he had a previous marriage, he was 26 when he married Martha. I only have 3 sisters for John B. and no brothers so I don't know where she came from. Perhaps someone else may know? Sure would like to know myself.
Patty, I do have a Womack Coat of Arms up at the Below page,
however I have seen several and who knows as to this one being
real.

Maria,
I trust you are not under the impression that the Jacob and Mary you
mentioned
are the same ones that were in VA, went to KY, back to VA, then
TN??
As far as I know, no one has ever found the last name of Jacob Womack
of Watauga's wifes last name, and the only name every known was
Martha who Martha Womack Bean was named after..
Jacob Womack and Mary Wills are real, but this Jacob is a cousin a
couple times removed to the one I think you are looking at.
However, one possibility exists that if her last name truly is a
Wills, then she may well be an great aunt, aunt or cousin to my Mary
Wills..
Would like to see your lineon that one..
I am looking for info on Isham Rice Womack and Mary Allen Stewarts daughter Martha b. c1825. My g grandmother is Martha Womack b. c1824/25 married William B. Miller. Martha was born we think in Tn. and died in Tx. Appreciate any information. Thanks Glenda
Hi again!
Well I have been so busy lately! Since finding "Franklin" Womack and
Rhoda Askew Womack living with Franklin's parents, Steven and Tempi
Womack things have been hoping! After getting my hands on this
information I just this week stumbled onto someone on the Cherokee
Genlist that is actually living in Ashdown, AR where all my Mom's
family lived. And she has been so nice to do some research for me!
And guess what? My Mom's cousin still lives there and she remembers
thing my Mom didn't remember. So I have since found out the reason
that I couldn't find a cemetery record for John Franklin Womack was
because he was never buried! He was cremated and his ashes scattered
over the lake there in Ashdown. She is going to check and see if
there are any funeral homes there in town that have a record of his
death so I can get a date. She has also checked the courthouse and
found a record of my grandparents marriage. She is going to get me a
copy and send it to me along with some other marriage records of his
brothers. I just can't believe it all! Its like I've finally hit a
gold mine after all this time! Sure do want to thank everyone here
for all their help.
Now I have another favor! *grin* Sam, Roger or Mark...do any of you
have any information on Steven Womack's family line? Someone said
they thought he was the son of William Womack and Francis? Can you
send me some information on this line so I can print it up for my
Mom. Her 73 birthday is on Sunday and I am going to try and make up a
little booklet for her with some of her family information in it. But
I need a little more information back on Steven and William. Any help
you can give me would be so much appreciated!
Feel free to e-mail it directly to me at:

Thanks so much guys for all the help. Your all real peaches in my
book!

Sheree,
There was an ASA WOMACK in Halfax Co. NC who had a daug. Sarah
Elizabeth, b. about 1848. Asa was b. c1813 in Halifax Co., NC and md.
Elizabeth Nichols, 18 Feb. 1833 in Halifax Co. NC These children are
listed with them on the 1850 census: Children: James 1835, Cloe Ann
1836, Thomas 1838, Mary 1843, SARA ELIZ. 1848, and Asa 1849. This
could certainly be your Sarah Eliz. I have a lot of information on
the Womack family from Halifax Co., but I have not found much on
Asa's family. I know that Asa was in Halifax Co. in 1872, when he
signed papers to sell land in Hardeman Co. Tenn. that he and his
brothers (Jordan, William and David) inherited from their brother,
Kinchen. I have not found Asa's death date.
If anyone has access to estate settlements in Halifax Co. NC. and
could do some look-ups, please get in touch. We could use some help
on this family. Ann in NE Texas
My homepage has been moved to the above, I promise this will be
the last move. I just have alot more flexability than using aol's
program. Thanks

Before my grandmother died, she provided me with a little
information regarding the Womack branch of my family. My gg

died Jan. 31, 1915 in Bartow County, GA; he married Frances Ann

not) that his father was born in Ireland and immigrated to the US;
she also told me that William Riley Womack had brothers named John

Does anyone have any information on 3 Womack's that lived in Bell County, TX. There names were Zelda Womack (b.1910; d. 1987), Taft Womack (b. 1909; d. 1988) and Prentice Womack (b. 1918; d. 1996). I had previously thought that my grandfather had passed away a long time ago, but then I found out that he died recently. So, I went online and found these names in the Social Security Death Index, I believe that the Prentice Womack that I found is my grandfather. Can anyone tell me if the 3 above are related in anyway? In the index all of their last known addresses were in Temple, TX. Does any one have any information on their ancestors or descendents. Please any info even it's small may point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Good Luck!
My cousin just gave me some information that seems very plausible. She states that much of the colonial records from Virginia are in the archives out side of London because it was their colony all the way up to the war of the revolution, many of these records were shipped back to England especially church, land and vital records. So if we can find a way to search this area we may find some information on our early ancestors that we have not been able to locate here. Does anyone else have any information on this?
I am looking for information regarding Abraham Womack. I descend from his daughter, Rachel Womack, who married William W. Tabor, Jr. The are is Virginia. Thanks.
See change in E-Mail address.
Ok all y'all Wopmacks, or pseudo Womacks, keep tuned in for the
next chapter..Reference Roger's comment about the records in

Hi Sam
Most of the records in the UK are held at Somerset House, which is
a
government archive of births, deaths, marriages, etc. I will do
some
digging around and see if I can shed some light on things for
you.
Watch this space !
Kind Regards
Darren
this is WOMACK togetherness and cooperation across many miles!!
I know that there is a marrage of the Womack line in to the
Puckett line, I thank in VA in the early 1700's or latter.
Any books showing it?
tom puckett

I am recently in receipt of a book by C. Wendell Horne, "The Horne
Families of Hopkins County, Texas - Their Ancestors and Descendants"
in it,it has the following information: (1) Richard Womack B. 1676 d.
1723 was the son of Richard and Mary Puckett Womack of Henrico
County, Virginia, and (2) Richard Womack, b. 1710, d. 1785, was the
son of Richard and Elizabeth Puckett Womack of Henrico County,
Virginia.
Hope this is of some help.
Sorrt for the typing, I have a broken hand....Roger may be
thinking of either the records of the VA Company, or the Colonial VA
records project. Both have been abstracted...well, the project is
ongoing. The CVARproject index is available online through the
library of VA - don't bother - no Womacks listed. No idea about the
VA company records. There is also a volume of wills probated in
England from colonial VA - I don't recall how long ago I saw it, but
didn't find any Womack stuff at the time.
Now, as for the Pucketts - ummm - how many marriages you want? Off
hand I can think of three without even looking them up!
Can anyone help me with this problem. I keep getting my Womack
database messed up. Now I find I have Dicy Jane Hayes married to
Richard R. Womack VI, s/o of Andrew A. Womack and Elizabeth AND
married to Richrad Mansel Womack IV, s/o David Womack & Mildred
Pryor. Since they are in different generations, I don't think she
married both of them, but which?
Johnny, from what I understand there were two of them Dicy's, one much older the FHC spells the first Hays, however this is not my line and I have not seen proof or documentation other than what is listed at the FHC. If you are planning on digging into this one let us know.
Well, in that same mess: David Daniel Womack b. 1827 MS, m. Mary/Polly Hays b 1837 MS, child William Hays Womack b. 1857 MS. David DAniel is supposedto be a sibling to Nancy Matilda Womack b. 1812 St. Helena Parish, LA, m. Rhesa Kenney 1833 ?? To begin with aren't their ages too far apart? But I have parents of David Daniel as Andrew A. Womack & Elizabeth and parents of Nancy Matilda Womack as David Womack and Sara A. Norris????? This is not my direct line, but I like to keep all the cousins straight.
In Sept. 1760 Abraham Womack was a witness for the estate
inventory of William RICE of Prince Edward County, VA. William Womack
was a witness for the estate inventory of Joseph Rice of Prince
Edward Co., VA in 1767. Is anyone familiar with these Womacks? Does
any one know of a relationship between the Rices of Prince Edward Co,
VA or Hanover Co., VA and the Womacks?
Someone has told me of a marriage between a Sarah Womack and a Mr.
Rice. She was the daughter of Thomas Womack and Mary Farley Womack.
Does anyone know the name of the man she married or any further info
on that family?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul Rice

Looking for info on William W. Womack born 4-19-1817 in Hancock Co. Georgia. I've been told his parents are Richard Womack b. 1760 in N.C. and Emily Miller, but I've been unable to make the connection with this line. Any help appreciated.

Hi,
Please contact me if you are a relative of the person in the subject.
I
found a quilt at an antique store that was made by 30 women in
Padgett, TX,
dated 1939. I really felt it should be in the home of a relative or
a
historical museum. If someone is interested in owning it I'm asking
what I
paid plus shipping. I suspect it will be about $175.00, depending on
how
much shipping is.
It has white squares with sailboats of different colors, under each
sailboat
each lady has embroidered their name, Padgett, and 1939. The edge has
a 1/4
- 1/2 inch pale lavender border. The quilt is a little faded and some
areas
are slightly yellowed. It has two very small (1/2 inch and 1/4 inch)
frayed
areas on edge of bottom border. I would say it's in almost perfect
condition
for it's age.
The names on the quilt are:
Mrs. Idailia Abbott
Mrs. Burleson
Mabel Carr
Annie Collins
Mrs. Laura Davidson
Edna Davis
Hattie Davis
Ola Drennan
Leona Durham
Lois Gaw
Edith Jennings
Sister Jennings
Mary King
Carrie Lisle

Mrs. W.B. Pounds
Bessie Reeves

I have added a new page to my homepage, "Womack Index" It's just a list of the Womacks in my database, for privacy, no spouses, parents or family connections. If you find names you want to know more about or share more about let us know, I'll be glad to share what I have on these lines. This file is long about 700-800 pages. We will post connections here on WGN.

The Puckett and Womack families of NC/VA married into each other during several generations. I recently ran across a posting that said Ruth Puckett (b. 1659) married both Richard Womack and Richard Womack, Sr.! Anyone know if this is true? (Her parents are listed as John Puckett, I and Anne Jeffreys). My own records have Elizabeth Ann Puckett (1700-1725)[child of John Puckett, Jr.] married to Richard Womack and Mary Elizabeth Ruth Puckett (1657-1692)[child of John Puckett, Sr.]married to Richard Womack. Can someone help clarify? Please e-mail me. Thanks!
